The president of the JCE, Román Jáquez announced during a visit to New York to meet with representatives of the Dominican community that by mid April, validated birth certificates will be available in New York. They are already available in Spain. Jaquez was accompanied by fellow JCE board members Samir Chami Isa and Patricia Lorenzo.

Jaquez said the services offered by the JCE Offices for the Registration of Voters Abroad (OPREE) are being expanded and improved. The offices will be issuing the birth certificates, but also marriage, divorce and death certificates.

The JCE members told Dominicans in New York that they are working to set up service offices closer to where the Dominican community is concentrated with mobile ID operations planned to provide Dominicans with their updated identity cards and promote voter registration.
