success! as i said i downloaded mouse pad driver and then disabled it. worked a treat! at least so far!
laptop was also restarted (for the download). i did not do any major cleaning but i know i will probably have to change the battery and the keyboard soon.

Are you talking about the Synaptics touch pad that I pointed out or did you do something different?

i did as you instructed in print screen but miesposo had to lead me step my step through synaptics page like a cow through rice field :) :) :)

It would appear that the sensitivity of the touch pad was too high or could be affected by high humidity. The good thing about the feature you added is that when the mouse is disconnected the touch pad still works. You still might want to adjust the Synaptic settings, specifically under "Pointing", then "Sensitivity", then "PalmCheck" and "Touch Sensitivity". Good luck.
