Geeeez.......a TARGET on my back...plus I've been known to wear shorts, carry ca$h, drink excessively, have my shoes shined, tip well....guess I'm lucky.

Can't say I've ever had the pleasure of meeting "Miguel".

HOWEVER, I did meet a guy in January 07 on Duarte in B.C. named "John" ...offered me gyrls, dope etc...I told him I was just there to drink, he asked to hang out with me...so I bought us drinks...poor SOB, by the time we got done drinkin', he was doubled over, puking between his legs onto the street, he fell getting up out of the chair....the thought of robbing him crossed my mind, I did not.

Fast forward to my recent trip to SD (the CZ)...I'm walking with my gal pal and three gringo buddies when we see these three hotties ahead of us strolling down El Conde.

Within 20 yards, I spot a famliar face...yep, it's "John", he hands me a business card of heavy plastic (you could cut somebody with it). He remembered me immediately! WOW I GOT A FRIEND HUH!

His bizniz card reads "Grand Jury" translations and introductions, $30U.S. with his name and phone number on it. He wants to know if I remember him and if he can "help me out"...the "hotties" were his...We declined his services, but I asked him to relate the story of our meeting in BC to my friends....it was a good laugh.....for us.

"John" speaks good English, with a NY accent, is a bit on the plump side but appears in criminal shape (he could be trouble for the uninitiated). A good distinguishing feature is his left eye appears "lazy or crazy", giving him a menacing look. (Just an FYI, a hard thumb jab to his right eye will blind him if he bothers you)

I ran his backgound (U.S.) and found he was deported from the U.S.A. arrested for drug sales and overstaying hs visit. This info was verified by local DR law enforcement. When I found him in BC he was roaming EL Conde in front of Hotel Mercure. (imagine that)

Gawd, I can't wait to ge back "down island", I miss the seedy, sleazy, feel (not really, I can't seem to find the adventures related to in this forum, and it's my JOB!)

See ya'll in 8 weeks!

Last visit to Jarabacoa, I was talking to a DomYork who told me he came back to Jarabacoa because he missed his family. He said he was working as a plumber. His sister told my wife he was deported for selling drugs. I think this is the case with many of these returnees. The easy money and flashy lifestyle attracts them just as it does many others. The fact that many are illegal, have no trade or education dooms them to either menial jobs or crime. Many chose crime, and do the time, then it back to the old country.

Yeah, its sort of sad. Do to the fact I look dominican I seem to attract theses types. I've meet a few deported from NY, DC, Miami and Atlanta all in the capital area. They always speak of how they hate the politics of there country and how they miss the US. One even told me he'd do anything to go back. I always suggest the straight and narrow path, even if it is hopeless.

Pyratt - In another post in the SD section, you agreed with another poster that you had never seen any of this type of stuff..... i think your words were EXACTLY what the other posted stated..... as you stated "EXACTLY....." - So to me and so many others, you agree that you have never been bothered by those seedy types or by those Hustler types or by those predator types or by those who are just trying to take you for a ride.....

So, are you mistaken or just one of those who can get your facts straight?

DAKRA you write: So, are you mistaken or just one of those who can get your facts straight?

(why are you so angry?)

Apparently you didn't read my unwritten sarcasim.....while I have been APPROACHED by guys selling gyrls and dope, I've never been "ACCOSTED" (touched) ....some of these posts make it sound like you can't go outside your home due to the crime and street scum...if the DR is really that way for you.....LEAVE...go somewhere where you feel safe

ATTITUDE plays a lot in life....if you're unsure of yourself.... you walk, talk and "give off that smell" and the ladrones pick up on it. (Stray dogs do too!)

Keep walking and ignore them or make it known swiftly and firmly that you're not interested. (verbally or by actions) You already know the street scum watch you on the street, drop one to the pavement once and the rest will know......forever....and you will be left alone.

For your assurance DAKRA...and I've said this in many posts...walk tall, speak with confidence and carry a big empty beer bottle ...(although my gal pal says this makes me look like a drunkerd)...FEAR no one, nothing and enjoy your life AND THE DR...grow a set, you need them to live in this world.

I've only had one cambio try to rip me off, I caught him and he joked saying it was a mistake...he paid...I would NEVER change money in the street.

The night Tres Musketeros made my party of 6 wait an hour for dinner and tried to force us to pay before dinner was on the table....safe to say, this gringo don't play....it was Tres Mouseketeros when I left.

I've worked in the worst areas of Miami as well as Honduras, Colombia & Coast Rica to name a few.....the DR is the same....it's no worse....honestly, I love the DR, I love walking the streets and the ADVENTURE that awaits me around every corner...

I am not a young guy...I'm gray, but in shape,... my walk, my deMEANor and my mannerisms say I'm no target....as a matter of fact, my gal pal says I show extreme confidence (as everyone should) when we walk together...she calls me her "perro grande" and sometimes "barks" at me....her little joke about how I talk to street scum when we are approached....(she does not like it when I poke them)

I'm not afraid of those TRYING to take me for a ride...(I look for them) ...my ride leads them into an alley....and I've left a few.....

.....as I said in my statement about "John the hustler"...I ran his background (figure it out) in the U.S...our second meeting six months later, his "friendship" was ignored.

Hope this clears up any confusion for you....I'll be back in seven weeks.

Nope! - Not Angry

Nahhh... I 'm not angry. I did read you post regaring the trip to SD and found it to be exciting and interesting reading. What I did think was odd is when you 100% agreed with another poster in the SD forum who says "Stay home and do not go to DR" -

I have followed many of your posts and enjoyed the reading, but could not understand how you could 100% agree with such an off-the-wall response to a posting and not add any additional comments to explain why. Feel free to PM me for any Qs.

No problem - No problem at all. Thanks for your reply. I look forward to reading many of your future posts.

P.S. I will be in SD in 6 1/2 weeks. Staying in SD at the Maison Gautreaux Hotel. Hope to see you or run it to you and enjoy an adult beverage with ya.
