I know this is an older post, and the OP probably has this info. by now. But just in case anyone else needs to know, to be specific about the CR1 visa, it is for spouses who have been married less than two (2) years. After the two-year mark, you would be getting an IR1 visa (for those married 2 years or more).

Also, the CR1 is a conditional visa, meaning that you must adjust status after the period runs. An IR1 visa is a permanent, 10-year visa. No need to adjust status.

From what point is the two years measured, the date of the initial application, the immigration date, or something else?

From the moment you get the green card.

We are waiting to have the interview scheduled right now. I think I am going through the CR1 process because the emails I get have these lines:

Case Number: SDOXXXXXXXXXX
Beneficiary's Name: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Preference Category: CR1 - CONDITIONAL SPOUSE OF U.S. CITIZEN
Priority Date: 01DEC2008

on the first page. However, our second anniversary is at the end of August. If we don?t get scheduled in August do I have to reapply and go through the IR1 process from scratch?

"Has he been to the US to meet your family?"

Can someone tell me how is that possible if/since they don't issue tourist visas to Dominicans wishing to visit the U.S. according to what I read on DR1 , or is that actually true ?

Yes, you are scheduled for a CR1 interview as your paperwork states. If your 2-year anniversary arrives before your interview date, you DO NOT need to re-apply. The embassy will (should) be aware of this and your interview will automatically be changed to an IR1 interview. Be aware that SOMETIMES things slip through the cracks; so IF you guys have your 2-year anniv., yet your INTERVIEW DATE PAPERS continue to say "CR1", just call and speak to a specialist and let them know..... just to be sure everything goes well at your interview.

I'm going to PM you.

That's not true. However, they don't issue tourist visas to Dominicans who have applied to immigrate. It would be possible to visit prospective inlaws before applying.

Very slim chance - but not impossible. is like playing the lottery... anyway, they have other visas too - work, student, etc...

Technically, if you have a tourist visa and are traveling to the US intending to marry a US citizen there, you are committing visa fraud. So it is possible to have traveled to the US for tourist reasons and still apply for a K-1 visa.

(This happened to a German friend of a friend- after several years of dating long distance, they decided to get married in the US. In going through customs they found their wedding invitation, asked her if she planned on staying in the US, and promptly sent her back to Germany!)
