Great! Now Dominicans can be as obese as Americans. Bring on the higher rates of Diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease.

I don't understand why people want to eat this crap!

I'll trade that extra 10 lbs. for the hedonistic satisfaction of yummy food that doesn't taste like cardboard, bean sprouts or tofu any day...:cheeky:

I'm not saying eating donuts and fast food once in a while is bad, but it concerns me that all these fast food places keep opening in the DR. Look at how fat most Americans are b/c they are used to eating fast food and processed food. The average woman's clothing size is a 10/12! Get ready to see the same in the DR if this crap becomes readily available.

You see the difference already in Dominicans that live in the U.S., they are usually fatter than the Dominicans that live in the DR.

Personal responsibility and free enterprise. People will eat what they want and companies can sell what they choose. Two mutually exclusive things. Period. Don't blame Krispy Kream for making you fat. They didn't force you to eat the doughnut, they just provide another "dietary" option. Don't like it, don't eat it.

They can put a million fast food joints in the DR, if they choose. And they can pack as much garbage into the food as they want, but it is our choice, as consumers, with a consciousness on our health and bodies, to make the choice to eat it or not.

Same with drugs, sex, alcohol, and a million other things in life. You eat the food and you know the responsibility and the risk of it all.

Bring on the Krispy Kream, a Red Lobster, Long John Silver, California Pizza Kitchen and any other fast food joint.

That's like blaming La Cerveceria Nacional, for every Dominican alcoholic wandering the streets of the DR. It doesn't have any logic at all.

i think dominicans are doing very well for themselves in calories department without help from uncle sam. majority of meds sold in our farmacia are for heart, diabetes, cholesterol and other issues related to obesity and unhealthy life style.
and as far as dominican sugar intake look no further then panaderias and bizcocho dominicano that must consist of 99% of sugar with traces of flour and an egg. add to this a cup of jugo natural naturally enriched with heaps of sugar and you have recipe for really fat butt and rolls of gomas around the waist. and dominican coffee? fantastic taste ruined by tons of cane product. heck, i have a friend who puts five heaping spoons of sugar into her half-cup coffee!

This is dead on Extreme. As I said way up, as a past marathoner, I tend to eat BK, MickeyDs and KKs as I please. This must be balanced with the norm of fish, brocoli, fruits, etc. and a daily exercise routine.

I'm going to stand by my past statement (and the empirical evidence) that obesity is "primarily" a function of education (sorry Bob).

Not saying that there are not genetic exceptions, BUT for the most part I don't see any doctors, lawyers or big biz execs as contestants on "Cuestion de Peso".

Average Dominicans will go broke eating fast food long before they get fat from it.

FF is cheap in the US but incredibly expensive here...
