We cannot decide whether to stay in La Romana or Juan Dolio. Does anyone know of other lodging besides Casa de Campo,Casa del Mar, or Dominicus in La Romana? We would like to stay away from all-inclusive resorts. We will be there from Sept 5-12. Thanks

Casa del Mar and Club Dominicus are actually in Bayahibe, which is a bit east of La Romana. THese two resorts are way, way, way better than what you'll find at Juan DOlio. The beach is a million times better, the hotel service is a million times better, and there's a lot more to do in the surrounding area. For one thing, there are some very interesting caves with Taino petroglyphs in the immediate area -- some of them recording Columbus' 1492 voyage -- and also a great island mangrove preserve with lots of beaches called Isla Saona. Bayahibe is THE place to go in the southeast.

Thanks, I needed to hear that. We are going to look at places to stay in Bayahibe. I just wish they were not all inclusive.
