This is a "Super Pola", same company (Grupo Ramos), but food-only, and a bit smaller than "La Sirena". Construction is going on well. Nothing spectacular yet for photos.

Now, I am earing crazy rumors about the coming of "Jumbo"... I am not sure what to make of it, as 2 big supermarkets would be redondent in a village like LT...

It can't be more expensive than Lindo :)

Wonder how Lindo is going to fare after La Sirena opens ?

Lindo is the most expensive place to buy food in this island. I believe that they will morph into some kind of "traiteur" or French specialties retail, a French version of "Punto Italia". Once the Pola opens, all other supermarkets are dead. Colmados will still sell, however, because barrio folks are so used to their credit-system.

I totally agree when I am in LT, the only reason I go to Lindo is to get "imported stuff". Their selection is pretty good I may add. Even, their baguettes is also better than the ones at skinny peroxide blond's bakery, lol :)

That would be real capitalism, but I dont think will be the future of the market. We all know how things works in Las Terrenas: Los gringos tienen que pagar. I'm sure Superpola will normalize prices with others supermarkets. They will surely have a sort of cheap oferta, but I'm afraid they will follow the usual "pelar el gringo" theory.
Everything in LT works this way and always will

Improved Infrastructure

Shopping has become much better in LT over the years.
[I remember the mid 90's when there was only one "supermarch?" (La Gaterie) where a French woman would slice the cheese while smoking a cigarette....]

Nowadays there is no longer the need to drive to SFdM (or even SD) to do one's shopping, it's just not worth it.
You'd even find a good bottle of Chilean wine cheaper in LT than elsewhere.
We buy in all local supermarkets (although more in "Atlanico" than "Lindo") and my wife has her favourite greengrocers.

I welcome "Pola", another competing supermarket can only improve the infrastructure.
