I know her. She was a Major last time I saw her. She had a son in our school. Lousy cop but a great cook.

Roberto Santana is back:

The former honorary advisor to the Executive Branch on citizen security policies and the penitentiary system, Roberto Santana, will once again lead the penitentiary reform.

In the central interview of the Despierta program with CDN, the expert explained that in his conversations with President Luis Abinader, he has asked for his collaboration to resume the reorganization and reform work not only of the Las Parras prison but also for the complete prison system.

Regarding the commission appointed by the President of the Republic, the expert said that he did not plan to have to return to the media to discuss these issues after resigning as coordinator of the system two years ago, “but reality has been stronger than forecasts.”, held.

Santana maintained that he advised Luis Abinader to turn the issue of Penitentiary Reform into a multiparty issue so that everyone commits to working on the reforms that this sector requires.
He stated that several days after the fire that left thirteen dead in the La Victoria prison, He received a call from President Abinader to raise the issue of budgets for the operation of the new Las Parras prison.

Santana said that on that occasion he was able to clarify to the president that instead of the 1.6 billion that he had said were needed to finish it, it could be operational with just 288 million pesos.

He recalled that two years ago he made this budget aimed at immediate investment, but with the exception that the Ministry of Public Works had to build the access roads.

He said that by then the engineers completed the designs for the reorganization of the prison that would house the inmates found in the La Victoria prison and handed them over to the Attorney General's Office.

Las Parras: “The crime of the crime”

Roberto Santana expressed that the Las Parras prison has not been completed under the allegation of “that it was the corpus delicti,” which became the starting point for the project to be stopped for completion.

The construction of this prison was started by Jean Alain Rodríguez and inaugurated in the first phase in 2020, but its authorization was paralyzed during the current administration of the attorney Miriam Germán Brito, due to the submission of the former attorney to Justice for alleged irregularities in the plan. of humanization that he developed in his management.

Complaint Minister of Public Works never complied

Roberto Santana stated that the first time he was an advisor to the Executive Branch on security matters, the president sent him to the Minister of Public Works, to execute the design of the Las Parras prison, but that Deligne Ascención never carried out. “The president called him to his office, and met him with me. He said yes and he didn't comply either,” he said. He argued that Ascención's non-compliance extended to other prisons.
