Would anyone know if lamb...oveja could be bought either somewhere here or Santo Domingo? Name of butcher. I do not think Nacional has.

I believe, more aptly, you would be looking for Cordero ... which I have seen in places like Supermercado Playero

When I lived in Santo Domingo I used to find Los Alpes brand (made in the Jarabacoa area IIRC) in Bravo supermarket, but no idea if it still exists.

We've bought legs of lamb from local butchers near our house, the price was almost identical to goat - I think about 165 pesos/lb.

Is the lamb in supermarkets imported or local? I know the price in the supermarkets is ridiculously high.

The lamb that you can buy in all major supermarkets is imported New Zealand/Australian and is limited to legs & chops. If you wish to buy fresh all cuts then Carne & Co in Santo Domingo is your best bet....they are located in Piantini, Augustin Lara.

Legs, chops and shoulder of lamb from New Zealand are available on and off at supermercado Bravo in the frozen meat section. A shoulder will set you back anything from 1,500 to 3,000 pesos depending on the size/weight
