Las Dunas de Bani

My wife and I own 50 tareas (7.7 acres) of beach in Bani. We were thinking of trying to sell most or all of it but we heard the area might be protected by the government. Our property is located in the area directly south of Bani and it's called Playa Las Dunas. How would I go about finding out if the land is protected or not? If it is protected, does that just mean no commercialization or does it mean we can't do anything with it?

Thanks in advance,

Jared

I'm curious: how did you come to acquire this property?

My wife's dad is a lawyer in Santo Domingo and owns a lot of land. (When someone can't pay him they give him land.) A while back he represented some people who owned almost all the land at Las Dunas and they paid him by signing over a large piece of it. When I married his daughter, he gave us 50 tareas as a wedding present and told us we could do whatever we wanted with it.

Today, I was talking to my cu?ada (who works for her dad) and we found out some more information about our land. A few years back, my suegro sold some of the land to someone and they just barely got there plans ready to build a house or something. They found out that they can't because of the protection law that was passed a few months ago and so today they went to my suegros office and told him they wanted there money back. Anyway, we found out that you CAN build on this land, as long as it contributes to the "ecoturismo". (No beach house, too bad!)

Anyone have any ideas about things that can be built that contribute to the ecotourism? Thanks,

Jared
