Citi Field in New York City will host the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (Lidom) series between rivals Tigres del Licey and Águilas Cibaeñas. The three-match series will take place on 10, 11 and 12 November 2023.

The Licey and Aguilas are the two winningest teams in the history of the Dominican Winter League. The Licey won their 23rd championship last season; the Aguilas captured their 22nd in 2021.

In the 2023-2024 Dominican Professional Winter Baseball Championship, as of 9 November 2023, the Licey is in second place and the Aguilas are in the last position of the six participating teams.

The New York City games are marketed as a match between the “Titans of the Caribbean.” Sell-out crowds are expected. Fans can purchase tickets for these games through Mets.com/lidom.

All event ticket sales proceeds will benefit the Sports Dreams Foundation. The non-profit...

Playing in NYC over other cities was done for a reason... As of two weeks ago already over 80,000 tickets had been sold for this series.
The Marlins can barely get a few thousand fans for their own games. This series wouldn't attract much attention there.

It usually does sell out since it's tournament between various countries and not a series between two local teams of one country.

If this series was played during the late spring or summer you might need two stadiums to handle the crowd.LOL

Didn't seem like a big crowd tonight (probably weather), maybe the weekend day games will draw more.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate at Citi Field. With Flushing Bay alongside, it gets breezy in Willets Point.
The cold is a factor, but also that those were weekdays. The games later today and on Sunday could gather a larger crowd based simply that it's the weekend. With that said, this refers only to Dominicans that don't care about the cold and those that do but are willing to put up with it if it means watching one of these games not through a screen. Most Dominicans, doesn't matter how big enthusiasts they are of beisball and Águilas/Licey, will not by anyone's imagination even think of going to the stadium when the temperature is not warm at the very least. Most Dominicans don't like the cold and it should be very abvious why.

Apparently, it had a good attendance. There is an article about this in today's Listín Diario.

- 25,343 (As game went on people kept arriving) which is the greatest attendance in the Dominican Baseball Winter Season.
- CityField average for this year is 32,994 (in a mostly warm climate.)
- Ticket prices went from US$40 to over US$400.

Maybe that figure will be surpassed in the games to be played this weekend.

Didn't seem like that many honestly based on the photos I have seen.

I think there are folks that just have had enough baseball for now. Why do they try to stretch it so far. Don't these people do anything productive in the off season. Our pros are running foundations, travelling, helping people. It's like soccer in Europe for God's sake. One reaches a point where they'd rather get a nitric acid enema than watch another endless game
