Likely Phone Scam from Haiti

A few weeks ago I received a call on my cell phone from a Haitian telephone number (area code 509) during the day, and this morning another one from a different 509 number at 4:30 (ugh). In both cases, I did not answer and also blocked the numbers. I can't imagine any sort of legitimate telemarketing calling from Haiti, especially at the early morning hour. If I answered, I'm guessing the conversation would have been along the lines "someone you know (insert name, maybe) has been deported from the DR and needs xxx pesos in order to return."

I realize the vast majority of us would not fall into such a trap. For me, when I saw "Haiti" with the incoming phone number, I knew I wasn't going to answer. But, having been woken up by it and the similarity of the area code with one in my home state, without the "Haiti" clue, I may have answered thinking it was a family emergency of some sort. Some here may have reason to answer a call from Haiti...if so, be aware and be careful.

I got a call to my Canadian number from Haiti a few weeks ago. My phone showed it as a spam call so I just ignored it.
Normally I answer spam calls as I like to make them cry. A fowl mouth with a creative imagination gets them worked up beautifully.
But I don't understand creole or Quebec jiberish so I let that one go.

Gotta tell ya, I have about 300 contacts in my phone, all of whom I have a history with at some point. If I get a call that doesn't pull up a name, I don't answer it.
They can leave a message and I'll call them back.

Been doing the same for 20 years. Never a problem...............And if they call again they are blocked permanently.............
