It's a simple process to get a duplicate:

The first step is to go to the National Police, to the Department of Investigation of Stolen Vehicles (Pilot Plan), to file a formal complaint for the loss or misplacement of the license plate.

The “National Police Certificate of Loss of Motor Vehicle Registration” is key as it will serve as support in all subsequent phases of the process. This document costs RD$100.

In addition to this, you must pay for the publication of the loss or misplacement in a national circulation newspaper.

The next step is to go to the General Directorate of Internal Revenue (DGII), to a motor vehicle services unit. There you must present the necessary documentation.

The institution requests the report of loss issued by the National Police, your identity card, a certified and sealed publication from a national circulation newspaper reporting the loss of the registration and payment of the tax required to issue a duplicate.

Your duplicate registration will be printed immediately.

And you cant just go to any DGII branch, you have to go to specific ones. Her we have to go to La Vega, and not their main branch, but one set up with the authorizations for this procedure.

Thanks for sharing the step-by-step process to obtain a duplicate car registration in the Dominican Republic.
