Hi Folks:
Is the drink MABI commercially available in the D.R.? I just read on the internet that GOYA FOODS is launching a new MABI soda.
Thanks

Please allow me to correct you, but mab? is not a root, it's a vine (bohuco or bejuco indio). Back in the 60s, the only commercially available authentic 'mab? de bohuco indio' was bottled in el Seybo, and was sold for years under the brand "Mab? Seybano". However, mab? de bejuco indio goes back to the Tainos, and is made all over the island where 'bejuco indio' is available. I make mine from bejuco indio obtained up river from Ban?.

Also popular in Cuba and PR, and known in the English-speaking islands of the Caribbean as "Mauby", I recently found out.

Cuba has a similar refreshing drink they call pru. It's made from the same vines which (they also call "... indio") combined with some other stuff.
