But who can suggest a good restaurant in Santiago. Two times I visited Santiago with some suppliers, visiting clients and we end up in..............macdonalds, while I really don't know any decent place in Santiago.

Do you want casual or formal?

Rancho Steakhouse near the monument on Ave, Rep. Argentina and another steakhouse on JP Duarte just before you get to La Campagna on the right coming from La Plaza Internacional used to both have decent steaks and meals. It has been so long since I had money to eat there though I don't know if they are still good. :)

In Santo Domingo, I usually enjoy Jardin de Jade...just off Geo Washington...

In Santiago:
Pez Dorado
La Comai-by the owners of El Conuco en Gazcue in Santo Domingo...good food at good prices.
La Parrillita on Juan Pablo Duarte, across from Plaza Internacional
Any of several good places in Los Jardines
The Italian place on the street in back of Banco Popular on 27 Febrero--you can see the back of it at the drive-thru banking area.
Lots of places..

Maybe it was the wrong day to go to Samurai or maybe it was just the bad timing or maybe it was me hoping the Santo Domingo would be different. It was complete disappointment dining and trip....

First, it was mistake of mine the Asiatico still would have all things Koreans and the more importantly still had 100+ bottles of soju that I saw last time I went there. Nope. Not a single bottle left. Now that I am back, it would had been better to go Korean restaurant and dine and buy some soju there. Anyways, my wife bought few things and shocked at the price that came out. Maybe employee/owner had over charged us on few items but I still don't see how the price came out to be this expensive buying only few items.

Second, The expertise of over pricing at Blue Mall was shocking. We went in there to look around and we could had max our credit card if we had stayed longer then 1 hour that my wife promised. My wife needed few essential items and it would've had been cheaper for me to fly to NYC and brought stuff we ate and bought today.

And most importantly, The dining experience at Samurai? It wasn't good one. Maybe it had not been enough time since we had came back from trip to NYC, or maybe Friday lunch wasn't the time and day to eat at Samurai. The food was so bad it was almost in the level of not edible. First take on Sashimi combo and sake: Unlike the day we ate at Aka, this time not even one fish was any fresh and the sake wan't nearly as hot as I was anticipated. Second Sushi combo: same fish over rice and decent Sushi Ya level roll, we weren't impressed at all. Tempura combo: I seriously doubt they have cooked it to our order, I wouldn't be surprised if they had previously fried it and used one of those microwave pocket to heat them and brought it out. No crunchiness what so ever, my wife still laughing over how she fries things better and I absolutely agree on this. And the last thing we ate and we will ever eat is the simple Tempura udon: We had been eating enough instant noodle to know how hard you try you can't hide all the synthetic tastes from the packet noodle and this soup had most MSG level we ever had in recent years. Mine and my wife's head still ache from couple of spoonful and I feel bad for my son, who had this bowl of noodle before we even had the taste. Ambiance was great like most people here said but I had better dining experience in Aka and from dining at two most well known Japanese restaurants in Santo Domingo, I would be horrified to try one in Cabrate. If you know owner/chef well and if you are regular and knows the level of food quality is better please ask why it was so horrible on last day of May afternoon. Perhaps only with explanation with change, I would ever step into that restaurant again. From now on if I want sashimi, I would have one of my employee call his friend at Punta Rucia and bring all the sauces we have and buy live fish(must be live) at fair price and have one of the boy filet the fish and cut them and eat it there or buy a freezer and go watogo route of deep freezing it enough and eat them....

Wow....
I can't believe my head still ache and I hope this another gulp of Pepto settles down my stomach so I can sleep now.....

on the way to Moca, in the yellow plaza - small-- can't remember the name
I could be wrong but could it be Plaza Sunrise? I will try one more time since I must verify this. I discovered couple of weeks ago, the restaurant at Plaza Sunrise had best mofongo that I ever had and I had plenty over the year. I might be wrong and I still don't know how mofongo MUST test like but they had some tastes unlike many many blend one that I had.

or buy a freezer and go waytogo route of deep freezing it enough and eat them....

I learned the hard way..........
Now I purchase a slab of salmon at Pricemart, about 900 pesos, cut into 4 large pieces and deep freeze, -15F for 2 weeks to kill any parasites. Purchase a slab that doesn't thin out at the end of the slab, as this has a different flavor from the thicker majority of the slab. This is plenty for 4 large servings when cut into smaller bite sized pieces for Sashimi.
Mix the Wasabi powder with water to your liking and when served with Roland brand Ginger............ Delicious.......
Now, if I could only find Japanese Plum wine in Santiago, I've looked everywhere.............

I am a bit confused as it says you are going to Santiago but talks about restaurants in Santo Domingo??? If Santiago go to Camp David, not cheap but for my money the best restaurant in Santiago.
If Santo Domingo my favorite is Peperoni on Ave. Sarasota. (again not cheap)
There is a great little Italian spot in the plaza across from Thrifty rent a car on Lope de Vega with an old Italian woman who owns/cooks. VERY reasonable and VERY good.

I heard the only Salmon and select Tunas are a type of fish that can and should be used deep freezing method to eat sashimi unless they are fresh. I heard this from my sushi chef in NJ. He wouldn't recommend any other fish though as they can easily go bad and loose all its tastes and can get you sick.

I've seen some Asian liquor being sold at Super Rico, but they don't always have them and it isn't cheap.
