Metro trains collide in Villa Mella

Service resumed on Sunday at the Santo Domingo Metro after nine persons were injured in the frontal collision between two trains on Saturday, 16 September 2023 at around 11am along a line connecting to Santo Domingo North. There were no fatalities, but one person was hospitalized so the medics could continue to monitor the patient for 24 hours to ensure all was well.

Opret has yet to explain what happened regarding the collision of the two trains between the Gregorio Urbano Gilbert and Mamá Tingo near Villa Mella in northern Santo Domingo. Officials detained the two conductors for investigations, but these were later released. The authorities have yet to give an explanation on whether it was a system error or a human error.

The article says it was a frontal collision. How does that happen when there are two sets of tracks. Sounds like one was going the wrong way. Maybe the driver was an ex moto driver?

More than that, the pic looks like they simply placed two trains head to head, parked. When I hear collision, I think Amtrak, I think India Rail, I think ICE. This looks like a scam. Smells like pork this situation!
