Miches beaches?
So it seems that Miches is not a spot worth visiting and no reasonable route from SD

I haven't been there yet but its located in a very beautiful environment. I think there is a development going on also which includes a hotel and a marina. These guy's got permission to do such a big development and in payback they leave almost 2/3 th of their land free for wildlife preservation.

Good info, thx. Do you have any idea if there is a decent road to get there. I heard they were working on improving the road by of course who knows for sure!
There is a beautiful road through the mountians going north from San Pedro, but the road sucks and you REALLY have to know where you are going. The beaches are nice, Ive been swimming naked and never saw anybody else a couple times. Macao would be easier and faster.
I have only been to Miches a couple of times but it is beautiful. I drove from El Seibo to Miches and thought it was a stunning drive. The road is not tarmacked a lot of the way, but I didnt think it was that bad. When you get to Miches the road becomes very narrow and steep and then you turn right through the town, over the bridge over the river and then turn left on a dirt track which takes you to a fabulous enormous beach. When we were there the keys became locked in the brand new Mitsubishi SUV miles in the middle of the beach and this guy came along who was a professional car thief from New York. His teacher in car theft lived in Miches so he went and found him and we weren't allowed to look while he opened the car in 2 seconds, without alarm going off and no damage.
Sorry to digress! There is a fab hotel called la Loma which you will see on the left high up as you enter Miches. Loads of sites on Google mention it - one here is Hotel LA LOMA en Miches - Republica Dominicana.

I've been up that way 3 times in the past two weeks and the drive both ways is horrible. The roads are in really bad shape now after the rain we just had last week and you can actually walk faster than you can drive the road in places. Unless you have a very sturdy 4 wheel drive vehicle you don't care about, I really wouldn't recommend that drive unless you had to. We had to be there, but it is not a fun drive. Beautiful but very very rough.
Based on the lack of information and attention that Miches receives it must not be worth the trip, maybe due to awful driving conditions. Forget Miches!
Miches was supposed to be the next big thing in The DR as tourist locations go. Never been there, but apparently there are some really nice beaches in the area. I know people with deep pockets have been buying up that area like crazy and the prices have gone through the roof (according to the news). When projects will actually be developed is anybody's guess and probably will depend a lot on whether the government fixes up the roads to provide easier access.

The new highway is all marked out at least as far as Miches.
A Brazilian Co. has a huge project underway approximately 40 km east of Miches on the old road. They are putting in a staging station for the workers on the road. The area cleared is immense and they are already putting up accommodations for the workers coming in. A lot of heavy machinery has made it's way there already and the road to that point has been slightly improved to allow for the gravel trucks from the gravel pits , but it's still an extremely bad excuse for a road from well before Lagunas de Nisibon onward. The road after the staging station (I'm calling it that for lack of a better term) barely exists for the rest of the way west.
And yes, land prices have skyrocketed up in the whole area. Apparently the staging station is where access to a new huge resort will go. The local land owners are well aware of what is planned for the area and are asking crazy prices already for any land, even well inland from the ocean.

The road is horrible but if you can make it, Playa Esmeralda is well worth it
