Is that little purple bag a Crown Royal bag?
sure looks it -

there's a liquor store on the same side of the street about 500-700 meters from that pizza restaurant. May be part of the trail or someone else's. Across from that liquor store is a local beer joint which plays loud music. Lots of chicas working there at night. Not a great place to be late at night.

I contacted Olof's sister who lives in New Caledonia. She said she still has not heard a word from her brother. If anyone can spread the word, it wouldn't hurt.
Do you know her, or did you just contact her to inquire about this?

I don't know her but reached out via FB. Her name was on the post on the very top. She's very worried. I sent her the link to the US Embassy in Santo Domingo. Without an ID he might be in a hospital and no one knows who he is. I've already reached out to several people who live there but it's a needle in a hay stack. I might go to the police station when I'm in town next week. I don't expect any action on their part, though.

I don't want to speculate, but the longer there is no publicity the harder it will be to track him down if he's still alive.

The sister said she was sent photos and news. That might help locate him and/or people that saw and were with him. Any DR1 members in Las Terrenas?

Hopefully he turns up, but as others mentioned this rarely ends well. I don't expect the US government to do much.
Here is a link on just this type of situation:

U.S. Citizens Missing Abroad

Travelers may not always be in contact with their friends and families, because of time differences, busy schedules, or poor connectivity. It is smart to discuss plans for staying in touch with friends and relatives before they leave. Agree on how frequently they will be in touch and whether it will be by phone, email, or text. Also, keep their contact information and a copy of their travel itinerary handy. This includes what flights they are taking and at which hotels they are staying.
If you are worried about a U.S. citizen relative or friend who is traveling or living abroad and have reached out with no response, you can contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. You can also call our Overseas Citizens Services office in Washington, D.C. at 1-888-407-4747. If you are outside the United States or Canada, call 202-501-4444.
Our team abroad can use the information you provide to try to locate the U.S. citizen and pass on your message. We may also ask local authorities in the foreign country. We can check for reports of a U.S. citizen hospitalized, arrested, or unable to contact those looking for them. The more information you provide about the individual, the better we may be able to help.
Even if we can reach your loved one, we may not be able to share information without their written consent. Safeguarding privacy is an integral part of the consular mission. The Privacy Act of 1974 (5 U.S.C. § 552a) is a federal law that governs how federal agencies, like the Department of State, collect, use, and keep certain records about U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents. Information from these records may only be disclosed with the person's written consent or if an exception in the law applies. Please visit the Privacy Act for additional information.

The US government "may ask" foreign authorities to investigate . For all the good that will do as we have seen in the past.

I'm surprised no Dominicans have ever offered Services for such Scenarios, to help the Families . Like a Private Investigator type thing. Someone who obviously speaks Spanish, knows the culture inside and out ,and can back track his Moves , ask the right locals the right questions.
The Police always seem to be totally useless . even if they wanted to, they just dont have the skills.
I doubt they could even find his favorite Eating Spots , and I'm sure the guy had a Pattern he followed each day .

And of Course , Hoping for a good Outcome .

Problem is that everybody might have seen him everywhere. This is a big problem here. Try it out by yourself; Invent a street name and ask people how to get there. I guarantee you that you find a lot of folks that describe you the way in detail like they live in this street for their entire life.
