Luis Martes in Cabarete gives the best exchange anywhere, yesterday caribe express was 37.4 and he was giving 37.5.
He's located in a little shop, by the plaza commercial. All the exchange, taxi's, beach vendors and hotels use him to exchange because of his rates. He doesn't have any sign on the street, just a small office beside the guy that rents moto's.
He also cashes some cheques from the US.

Totally agree regarding Luis as his rates are always a little better than everywhere else and he doesn't put a sign outside quoting his rate either so you have to seek him out in his office.

citynights?

How much better is the exchange rate in Sosua and where? Please let us know. We may well consider a trip to Sosua to get better rates. I would definitely go if they give 40 pesos to the dollar!

Don't change money at the airport. Like most countries, the airport money exchanges charge a heafty vig. That is true for whatever currency you change.

This was not an airport money exchange. It was the desk where you pay your departure tax at the gate before you board the plane. They had no choice, because they had only $CDN on them.
Some airlines have this tax included in their ticket, Sunwing doesn't, nor the $10 Tourist card.

every trip down I go caberate for a day or two....sousa always has a better rate...why I do not know...even it is only couple points to 5 points better...the supermaket in sousa is always the best or a close second ...myself I go to the money exchange at intersection Pedro Clisante & Duarte next door to the bar...whereever I go by money exchange I always ask todays rate...that is why in 8 trips I never exchanged any money in caberate...
