Similar discussions have revolved around Remitly, Xoom, and a few others but I don't think Ria has come up recently. A quick look makes me think they are no better or worse than the rest. Their introductory rate for changing USD to DOP is about the same as the local rate. But, after that it appears to be about one peso less per dollar and I couldn't see what other fees may be charged. If you choose to try them a couple times, let us know what you think

Coincidentally used Ria yesterday and went with no issues.
Money was picked up at Caribe Express.
I like that they have an explicit 'Send to Myself' option!
At least then you know for sure you can do it. WU never could give me an answer on that.

If this wasn't your first time using them, would you mind sharing the exchange rate and any fees? I know they have an introductory rate and no fees for first time users, but am unable to see beyond that without having an account

It was my first time using them.
Sort of a trial run.
I got 64.94 DOP for a Euro and they charged 1.89 EUR transfer fees.
If I want to do the same transaction now, they give me 64 DOP for an Euro and still charge 1.89 transfer fees.
Seems I did not get much of a introductory rate......Must be country dependent.

Another funny thing about Ria: someone once sent me money from DR to the Netherlands.
When I went to pick it up, they looked at me like I was from outer space: No one had actually ever received money at their location, only sent it from there to other countries.
In the end they were not able to figure out how to pay out money!
I just told the person in DR to forget about the money and cancel the transaction. It wasn't worth the hassle.

It looks like there's about a peso difference between the normal RIA rate and the local exchange rate. Not sure about the fee though. Anyway, it's up to the user to decide if it's a good or so-so deal.

As far as I could ascertain it seems to vary per country whether they allow it or not.
I've sent money to myself from my US bank. using W.U. many times. Last time was about one month ago. I sent $500 USD and received $500 USD for $6.99. It was available for pickup in 5 minutes.

Where did you go to pick up the money? WU or GWK?

I went to two locations, one which did it as his side hussle in a mobile phone accessories shop and another one, can't remember.
After two tries I realised I was spending more money on gas and my time than the amount I was trying to pick up, so I gave up.
I don't think you can pick up money sent by Ria at a WU, I think they only do their own business.
