knock on wood

On my trips to LT, I withdrew money with my debit card at least twice a week in banks ATM, because I hate to carry a lot of cash with me. I guess I have been lucky, but will try to be more careful next time.

Yes, I have heard of a lot of horror stories with debit cards in the dr....so now I use my visa for cash advances..much safer! Those debit machines that copy cards are all over the world...just have to be careful..

I use my visa too for cash advances and I also prefer to go to a teller in person at the bank rather than at the money exchange places because my mother had her card compromised when she came to POP with me last January. Luckily the bank contacted her and she was not liable for the expense. Her card had been used by someone at the plaza in Playa Dorada after we returned from our trip.

Not mine. I have my tin foil hat on.. :bunny::bunny:

I don't have any cards with a chip in them as yet. When I do they will go into my own personal Faraday cage. :glasses:

While it is true that using credit cards is "safer" it is still a royal pain in the arse to deal with any fraud. I have not had any fraud using ATM machines in my 10 year experience in the DR. Sorry that the OP has to deal with it.

There are wallets available now that you can protect your chip type cards with. They are lined with a material that makes the chip undetectable to the scam readers etc.... although, I watched the news documentary that was discussing this issue and they brought up the fact that the wallets are being marketed by the same company who has brought it to the public's attention that this scam is possible etc... All of my cards have chips on em... :nervous: even the one with the $20 grand line of credit... I don't carry that one around as often anymore....
