Need help with shipping

I've searched and read many threads, and still feel as if I have no idea where to start. I'm looking for help with my situation.

I have bought a small condo near Bayahibe, Americanus Dominicus to be exact. There is an office of a shipper almost across the street, either EPS or CPS, can't remember which one. Hopefully it is one that is ok to use. I am going in December and the unit needs to be furnished. Ideally I'd like to ship a mattress and stay in my own place instead of renting a unit while looking for furniture.

So I sign up with a shipping company, use a USPS address they provide, order and have it sent to there. Then they send it to DR and I pick it up or do they deliver? What about fees on the receiving end?

Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to reading responses.

I would buy a good mattress locally. La Roana or Punta Cana will have numerous stores.

I will probably do that for the second bedroom, but will have nowhere to sleep if there's not something waiting when I get there. Too old for sleeping on the floor.

You can have your mattress is a day or so buying locally, two-three weeks if you ship...and save some $$$ in the process.

Do not use EPS or CPS. It will cost more for the shipping than the mattress. Use a mudanza like WW said. EPS and CPS are great for small weight items under $200, not for much else.

Really best to just buy it here. You can get it delivered the same or next day.

I bought mine at Iberia in San Pedro. Bought around 11AM and delivered around 3PM. That includes lots of other furniture too.

As others have said, the EPS/CPS type courier companies forwarding from Miami are expensive for large and heavy items. Also, anything you ship here with a value of over $200 is subject to tax and will not be released by customs until they are paid.

You are also supposed to register with DR customs on their website if you plan to use EPS/CPS type couriers.

CPS offers a ship-by-sea option that would be cheaper. You'll need to speak with them about the specifics.

Buy a mattress locally in La Romana. A reasonably priced one will serve you well. Shipping one from the states is cost prohibitive unless it is shipped with many other of your own household goods.

EPS is OK for shipping small things under a few pounds and under US $200.

Ok, looks like I’m shopping locally. I just have no idea where I’ll be sleeping if I can’t get same day delivery. Probably at the beach!
