Luis Abinader, President of the Dominican Republic will be introducing legislation today for the construction of 4 speed bumps of every paved kilometer in the country. This in an effort to reduce traffic fatalities. Currently, the Dominican Republic has the highest road traffic fatality rate globally, with 64.6 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, surpassing the global rate by 3.8 times and the regional rate by 4.2 times. Legislation will have to pass though the Congreso de la República Dominicana. Once passed, it's being predicted will take years to complete.

I realize we are awaiting the source. But, can you imagine the chaos on the highways? Every km, everyone slowing way the heck down or crazily bouncing over?

Hahaha will never happen ! Just imagine.... this would be the end of fruit and vegetable exportation. A Truck full of tomatoes etc. passing 400 speed Bumps on his way from san juan or santiago to the port of Haina. After arriving in the US, they could deliver it only to Heinz LOL. This Story made my Day.

April's Fool Day!! :ROFLMAO:

But you have to admit, the Dominican Republic is addicted with those horrible speed bumps
The biggest issue is that they aren’t standardized.

And I assume because of this, some of them have the edges so sharp that it really wears the tire. Or the markings have faded off.

On the street where we are at the moment, I'm all for the speedbump as it does exactly what it's supposed to do, it has the right form and correctly marked, but almost a decade ago, I destroyed our SUVs rear suspension leaving STI airport in the dark and not seeing (had not left the airport ever before by car in the dark) the speedbumps exiting the airport on the highway. Both the rear struts died shortly afterwards...

Some places it’s ridiculous. On the road between Nigua and Playa Najayo there are endless speed bumps. My mother-in-law counted them, I think she said there are 24. Most aren’t marked/painted, so driver beware.

For some reason, which I can only think is to attract potential clients of a local small colmado, they actually built two high speed bumps on the dirt road in the campo where we go to. It would be totally fine, but our vehicle (body on chassis older construction, high SUV) has a pretty decent ground clearance, and you still have to do an S going over those, otherwise I will scrabe the undercarriage. So it's safe to say that with a regular sedan, that part of the campo is off limits, there's no way they can get over those...

Most of the ones I drive over by the schools in the countryside are worn to the point where you barely notice them until your on top of them.

A year or so ago, I visited the Palenque area near the capital with a friend. I was driving and his job was "spotter", looking out for the many unmarked speed humps that nearly took our wheels off several times.

This is one of the few times that you are grateful for a little traffic. I'm convinced I would have missed half of them and bottomed out multiple times. However, the 2mph traffice that I was swearing at turned out to be a blessing.

Very true. Mr AE is always happy when there’s another vehicle ahead of him on that road to give him a heads up

It's a PITA if you have a manual transmission.
