Looks like someone opened up a new shipping center store in Las Terrenas, see picture below:

I might be wrong but it's not always the shiny covers that guarantee that the product/service would be any good. Website they don't have yet either (went through the link via the news article, just a Wordpress template)... I wish all the good for them...

The BMCargo sucursal in POP looks like a garbage dump compared to this store, yet somehow they are always packed with customers... Same with Domex in POP, situated so that I had to use Google Maps to find the first time we went there, and small as h*ll, yet works very smoothly...

Exactly. That's one reason I have always had great respect towards them. There is absolutely nothing fancy in their office, nothing. It's an old building, rather small, they have hardly any advertising, so they have an image of being humble at least with POP branch. Yet service is and has always been (for the more than decade we've been their customers) top notch, I have felt almost like back home dealing with them. They are the only Dominican business I have even had meaningful communication via email. Timely, professional.

Sorry, this is off-topic for this thread, but had to comment as RDKNIGHT quoted my post...

Just what is needed. EPS, CPS, Encargopaq DOMEX, BM Cargo, Vimenpaq and a half dozen other businesses already doing this were certainly not enough.

Far be from me to complain about the DR moving into the 21 century with parcel couriers. The strongest will survive.

Better a courier occupying a commercial space than another betting agency.

I have no idea how big is this market in the DR, but I would assume that to all of these to stay in business the market has to be growing? I don't think many loyal customers would leave their existing courier though, so the new ones would have to, at least partially, focus on new clientele?

Also, competition should bring prices down, no? Or at least improve the service, which was already evidenced in the other thread that now you can return items free of charge. Having checked carefully all our BMCargo invoices I would bet that this service was not offered by default 3 years ago...

I hope I get this right, but don't these couriers exist in the DR only because of the dubious customs unless you really know what you're doing? So they only exist as a workaround if you will as anyone ordering stuff from abroad straight to the DR address would have deal with the customs themselves? So the whole country to move forward actually it would needed to overhaul the govt/aduanas and not add couriers. I realize adding a courier (=another middleman) is much easier than to try to work with the DR govt. When I order stuff from abroad in the EU, I obviously don't use any courier but the customs directly...

Of course the couriers also help with the fact that many sellers only ship within the US, but just focusing on the above point purely.

Also I think you will find that the charge for international shipping elsewhere will be higher. Also, service is very fast. A US friend sent me a gift recently, and thought the USPS was the way to go. Four weeks later, I was very surprised to get a phone call from INPOSDOM to come get my package. No customs hassle, just a 100 peso service fee.

One would think after 3 or 4 such shippers existed prices would drop. Not really the case.

Return shipping? Not likely to happen at any reasonable price. Free returns? I would hazard a guess that won't be happening any time soon if ever.
Shipping out of the DR is a PITA.

Apparently BMCargo does offer free return shipping to their Miami location. Other couriers may too, never had a reason to ask.

I agree with you on this being potentially a hassle. It was another poster (cavok) that pointed out this new thing this to me in another, linked thread.

Some courier companies may offer free return for items under US$200. Be forewarned, if there were import taxes and fees paid for item(s) over US$200 the process of documentation to reclaim the taxes and fees will come at a cost. If the costs to reclaim are more than the value of the item(s) it is best not to return. Depending on the situation, i.e., a damaged or wrong product, it may be best to contact the original vendor and inquire if they can help, provided you give them documentation of the matter. Sometimes, they will refund your costs and/or reship, depends on their return policy and goodwill.

PJT
