one annoying thing about most flight sites is the need to search using exact dates- very often you cant search for just a cheap flight ANY time

It didn't pull up American nor Spirit for some reason for my flight to Orlando. I did it a week in advance.

This should be a sticky.

I don't think so.....

I just tried a flight from STI to TPA and the first listing was $376 on Jet Blue.
Then I tried A/A site and got a flight quote of $188.50

I tried a test booking for October 2010.....
Lowest "Hipmunk" price was $365.

Looks like they don't search all airlines, and as Chip said, they do not do American Airlines.

That's a price saving of about $178 using A/A site.

As far as I'm aware they are only pulling data from Orbitz right now.

They are still very beta, expect them to add more feeds as they evolve.

So that tells people not to use Orbitz, else they may be paying more money then necessary!!!
As they may not be getting you the best available price.

I think it's always best to shop around. I have yet to find one booking engine that is consistently cheaper than all the others.

HipMunk might not be the cheapest, but it's way cool and does a great job of presenting the flight details. Sometimes that's enough to get the sale :)

I use Kayak.com to see who is flying and when, what the fares are, and then I go directly to the airline to book. It also shows days before and after prices in a calendar to the right.
