I've just booked Bahia Principe in La Romana at the end of June, the rate came out at US$ 66 per person per night all inclusive which I think is very good. I've got another booking for Alma de Bayahibe for US$ 80 per night per person in a suite mid-June also all-inclusive. These places deliver a pretty solid product, I'm not massively into AI and have never had a really nice meal in any of them, so I prefer to go cheap-and-cheerful and at these rates you can't complain about anything.

If anyone fancies north coast, you can find very good rates out-of-season at Viva Tangerine in Cabarete (usually around US$ 50 per person per night). This place has big contracts with Canadian travel companies in high season and the rest of the year they sell super cheap to get butts on sunbeds.

Those are good rates. I think the days are coming when, because of overbuilding and falling tourism to DR, these may become high season rates soon too.

Which website are you using to get these rates?

When there's an all inclusive that accepts dogs I might think about going to one.But those rates do seem to be great.
This might be of some help............

same from me : which website ?

All the rates I've quoted are fully flexible, you can cancel without penalty a few days before the stay. You'll get even cheaper rates if you go non-refundable, but I always book flexible.

Booking.com is charging about 10% more. You'll often find that hotel chains offer "members only" deals (to get around their contracts with the online agencies like Booking.com), but it's free to become a member.

The sites I've booked on are:

Bahia Principe's own site, www.bahiaprincipe.com.

The Cabarete rate is on vivaresortsbywyndham.com .

The Alma de Bayahibe rate is on hmhotels.com

Would you like to take your dogs with you to the marvellous buffet and have a refreshing jump in “all de people in de pool”?

The old Santana Beach Hotel (now Bahia Principe LR) beach was mostly fine, the water not.
We used to stay there regularly when it was new/ish. Lots of beach but the sand was not the nicest. It's quite sheltered so no waves to worry about, I don't know what the sargassum amounts are now.

where do you think I was referring?, the beach at Bahia Principe in La Romana, I've stayed there before, it's actually a half-decent resort as they have an adult only side, but the beach sux

I mentioned three hotels in my post, one in La Romana, one in Bayahibe and one in Cabarete. So when you said the beach isn't nice, I wasn't sure which one you meant.

For that price I don't think it's an issue. There are quite a few kids in our party so they will just be in and out of the pool, the ladies will sit beside the pool watching the kids and bitching about the other women around the pool, and the men will be in the bar talking about cars and football.

Yep, we will be doing our annual take the teachers to the resort and it will be pool for most and taking for food than you can eat. Will only be four or five guys and they might be talking baseball, music, politics, or crime. Probably be ay the Grand Ventana in Playa Dorado.

In all the visits we took the kids (mine, nieces, nephews) to an AI, they rarely if ever swam at the beach, it was always the pool. It got to the point where we would choose a resort based on the pools as opposed to what the beach was like.
