I heard this morning on the local news that one of the owners ran off with a very large sum of money...can anyone confirm that. It is no big suprise that it closed down. I refused to pay 150 pesos for a beer to a large company such as Nikki Beach when I can get a beer just about next door for 100 pesos...I am not being cheap, it is out of principal. If they matched the price of all other locations on the beach they may well still be open today. To come in and try and be the 'snobs' of the beach just does not work. The best place on the beach is Ojo's, and their prices are normal and the atmosphere is fantastic....oh, and the owners are long term residents, which certainly helps. Whilst I certainly don't want to see Nikki Beach go, it kind of serves them right for trying to be better than everyone else.

I am surprised to hear that one of the owners ran off with a large sum of money. To do that, the business would have to have been profitable, which I very much doubt. Or it was money the other owners were kicking in to keep the place afloat. Something does not add up about that story.

In any event, Nikki Beach tried to be a champagne level place in an area with a beer budget.

If the Sushi has been frozen it will kill the worms, otherwise its a risk. Personally I would not consider eating it in the DR. There is plenty of other food where its a little harder to get sick.

They serve a nice clam in Sosua....ha ha

The closing is no surprise to me when you consider the cost of their franchise

Ah I think that variety of Clam is called the Bearded Clam. :D Many clams and mussels have beards really.

That might be the name the Boogie Man uses for a new seafood restaurant on the beach there.

Think about this "The Bearded Clam" now on the roof you have a giant clam shell only instead of sitting flat on the side you have it vertical with spot lights on it and have a hairy beard on the top. Then you have it motorized to open and close slightly and have it pink inside the flesh colored shell. Then you have a small recycling water fall thing going on with it flowing top to bottom and advertise Clam Chowder 3 weeks a month serving New England style White Chowder. Then one week per month the Bearded Clam serves Manhattan Style Clam Chowder and it runs RED. '

Guaranteed to get on TMZ or some **** like that. ;)

Is Nikki closed as is closed for good or closed because they are moving? I heard (YADR = yet another Dominican rumor) that they had purchased a chunk of land over by Encuentro and were going to build there. Apparently NB prefers to be 'off, away and private' which the Cabarete Beach will hopefully never be. Anyhow, I heard this awhile ago. More BS or did anyone else hear something similar?

P.S. Good thing I never bought an NB Platinum Card!

Yes, there were rumors about the Encuentro area. When the land disputes in Encuentro developed at around the same time, I think they gave up on that idea if they really were ever serious about it.

A rumor about a business opening at the Nikki Beach location

I just heard a rumor from a normally reliable source that there will soon be a business opening at the Nikki Beach location. I don't think it will be Nikki Beach returning, but something else.
