I've been going to the DR (and Sosua) since the mid 80's and have NEVER been "patted down" at any club, even in Sosua.

In the larger discos in Sosua I have been patted down or had a metal detector run over me. In Sabaneta as well. Not in Cabarete, though, other than at the casino.

Let me clarify. They assume the tourists didn't have enough time and access to a firearm, so they usually will let them pass. The locals however, they won't. I have a lot of locals i hang with to varying degrees, and many times they let me go and stop that person. It's a reminder the treatment there. Sad really. But i might add, some clubs that i Dont frequent will assume i am Haitian and pat me down, also asking me for my "cedula" LOL.

I carry a large blade with me all the time in the DR..I get checked or "patted" down at every club and casino....usually the hand held metal detector doesnt catch it...and the times it does, the guy doesnt do anything......ha ha ha...I think he figures I am a gringo, so i dont have a gun..and maybe he doesnt care about anything else..


one of the benefits of being a gringo.. I could pack a small pistol, the metal detector would find it, but the guy would just let me go....they never check to see what set the metal detector off!!!!!!!

this is interesting. i look very much like a dominican but they never pat me down or ask me for a cedula. when i go out i'm always well dressed (not looking like a gringo) and i think it gets me over. i could carry an M16A2 up my pants leg and noone would notice. :laugh:
