Obtaining DR Citizenship for Spouses

In your case I understand you got a DR passport for your own purposes.

If I become a DR citizen I have no intention of making yet another trip to Santo Domingo for a DR passport which would , at this time be otherwise useless to me, unless it is a requirement that I have one based upon some DR law when I travel and a DR Citizen's Cedula is not proof enough. That is why I am asking the question if the DR Citizens version of Cedula is proof enough.

I just use my cedula entering and leaving the country with my British passport. No problem at all.

If you enter on a foreign passport, and stay longer than 30 days, you'll need to wait while they unlock that passport when you leave. Entries on foreign passports are automatically classified as a tourist entry in the "system".

If you used a DR passport, no delay when leaving. It doesn't usually take long and the wait may not be worth the cost of a DR passport but that is one small advantage of using a DR passport to come and go.

When I went for the ceremony in 2004 my lawyer was with me. After the ceremony he took me to get the Cedula. Then we went right to get the passport. He had all the necessary papers and the next day I had my passport. Not too difficult if you have a capable lawyer.

THe rules have changed a bit since 2004

New cedulas cannot be printed same day....24 hr period until printing
Can't say for passports

My paperwork for the cedula took months.

I enter and leave with a foreign passport (British) and never have to wait for it to be unlocked. Also have Dominican cedula so no idea if that means a difference.

My husband’s US passport was locked. He, of course, has a cedula. It look about 2 minutes to unlock,
