hello people

we're coming for 2 weeks in June to the Casa Marina; been there before but the clincher to returning was Ocean World. Can anyone give me advice as to how best to go about it? I'm very much inclined to do our own thing outside of an excursion operator and operate to our own itinerary.... but need to know the following...

what can we expect to pay for a taxi to Ocean World from Casa Marina Sosua?

Can we pay just the flat standard entrance fee to Ocean World then pay for any encounters completely seperately once inside? The site only lists prices for standard entry or standard entry + variable single encounters... I interpret this as potentially having to pay standard entry several times over if we choose multiple encounters....

should I not be so stubborn and just go with an excursion?? If so, who would you recommend?

thanks in anticipation, can't wait to get to your lovely country...

You have to pay the flat fee. Then they sell you ticket for the other attractions. You have to pay for everything before you enter. You have to pay the flat fee no matter what, or you don't get in. I think you can save some money by buying the entrance tickets on line. We did and saved about $10 per ticket, but that was last year. Don't know what the price is now.

so I pay the entrance fee standalone, then the cost of encounters individually? all at the same time? makes sense...

Yes that's how it works. You ought to really check on line. We got ours from Sky Auctions .Com.

the only problem with that is we're planning on doing a lot of trips when we get there... that'll have to be a mix of scheduled excursions and self-planned ones, so don't want to tie ourselves down to any dates until we're actually there in case there's any date clashes. anyone got any idea what a taxi fare Casa Marina-Ocean World would be?

Normally, it will be cheaper if you buy an interaction program before you get to the park, which includes admission and the bus ride to/from your hotel.

For example, Dolphin Swim with admission is $165

if you buy admission, its $55 and if you upgrade to the swim, it will be 140 so 140+55 is 195.....better to buy it for 165 in advance. similar deals with the other interaction programs like sea lion encounter and shark encounter.

When we bought our tickets, we had a use by date of 6 month. I don't think your tied into a certain date. We just went when we wanted. We had 8 tickets. Four of us went 1 day and four others went two weeks later. I think if you look online they say the tickets have to be used by x date. Hope this helps.

we're looking at two encounters; dolphin (not swim, just enounter) and sea lion... do they offer a scale whereby you can buy entrance+1 encounter, entrance+ 2 encounters, entrance+ 3 encounters etc etc? Can anyone provide any links to tour operators we can book open date excursions with who'll also provide pick up/drop off information online? Sorry to come across as a luddite.... trying to organise a hell of a lot of trips for our visit!!

The pick up points and times are issued by Ocean World when you make the reservation. There can be a small surcharge if the hotel is far out of the way, like Bahia Principe in Rio San Juan or Luperon, for example. The pick up points are usually the lobby of the hotel.

would casa marina sosua be considered far out the way?
