Do you really think they would allow wild boar here ? if if any of them got away they could devastate the farming industry, look what they've done in the US and Canada.

Good Point , they are very destructive and multiply like rats .
they have to literally shoot them by helicopter and trap them in Automatic Cages .
never even heard of Wild boar in the DR ..
Do they have Fenced in Hunting Preserves possibly? but they would also escape as they can easily dig under any fence .

That's a fair concern—wild pigs have indeed caused extensive agricultural damage in the U.S. and Canada. Interestingly though, the majority of these wild pig populations aren't pure Eurasian wild boar (Sus scrofa), but are actually hybrids—about 90% domestic pigs (Sus scrofa domesticus) that escaped from farms and only about 10% Eurasian wild boar introduced decades ago on hunting preserves. That being said, it's not unlikely that domestic pigs could escape farms in the Dominican Republic and produce similar results there. These 90/10 pig-boar hybrids don't necessarily have significant advantages over fully domestic pigs in terms of destructiveness or adaptability.

Wild boar (Jabalí or Puerco Cimarrón) are present in many provinces here, especially in Hato Mayor and Altagracia. They are also in the Los Haites National Park in Samana. They are hunted due to the damage they make to the forests. They have been known to attack people especially when very hungry or protecting their young. Several years ago in Hato Mayor a young girl was attacked by a boar and destroyed her leg. I remember how fast these animals can run as about 35 years ago whilst I was living in the French Alps a friend and I were walking through a village in the middle of winter along an icy road after my friend crashed his mums car into a church (I have yet to meet another person that has managed to crash into a church!), and suddenly out of nowhere this wild boar comes running at us. We jumped over a wall into someone's garden to avoid the boar. Fortunately the boar could not get over the wall. A few minutes later a couple of baby boars came walking down the road so obviously the boar was protecting it's young. I was thinking to myself what else could go wrong that night?!!!

They should invite tourist down here to hunt pigeons. Santiago's parks, squares and neighborhoods are full of them and it's disgusting.
