The way I understand it is that any document such as a birth certificate has a signature of the official who entered the birth into the register. The apostille is the process of verifying that signature and ensuring that the person who signed was suitably qualified and authorized.

It's a good job I don't need to sign those type of official documents because my signature has changed immensely over the years!:bunny:
