I think DR today could use a Trujillo-light without the SIM and the sociopath Johnny Abbes. A stern father figure with a soft spot for his children. I really think the government getting serious and tough with the "little things" like littering and garbage clean up would go a long way in setting the stage for taking care of the bigger problems.

Precisely. This is the appropriate thought process, Frank. Malcolm Gladwell describes it in his book The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference. One chapter deals with how NYC cleaned up the subway system and lowered crime overall by adopting a zero tolerance policy on graffiti on the cars and on turnstile jumpers. The cops were reluctant at first, but it worked. He also discusses the issue of litter. It's a fact that litter is a magnet for more litter. Even those that sometimes litter are less likely to do so, on a subconscious level, when they find themselves in a pristine setting.

This is one thread where we see eye to eye. I have no difference with you here. I love this thread and I love these photos. I wish I could have been born in those times and died in those times. Those who know nothing of those times can instantly pick up from the picture the order and discipline that is evident. That emanates from the photo in a way which puts to shame the present DR. That is a Dominican Republic I am proud of. I have passed along the photos to other family members and they love it. Keep them coming Pick. By the way, please describe this photo and the people if you can. Thanks!!!

Mr. AE loved the old photos too, especially the ones of guibia beach, he spent a lot of time there as a boy and teenager. Good memories.

The second man with the hat on the bottom row from left to right, was Pichardo's father!
