Ophthalmologists urge care when observing the annular solar eclipse

The ring around the sun will not be seen again in the Dominican Republic until 1938, but everyone needs to take special care when observing the eclipse on Satrurday, 14 October 2023. Local medics warn not to use the traditional X-ray sheets or sunglasses to see the eclipse. The eclipse will be visible in Santo Domingo as of 12:34 to 2:13pm on Saturday. In Santiago, it will be visible earlier, starting 12:29pm.

People should use special eclipse glasses, colanders, slotted spoons. Anything else with small holes can be used to view the sun safely. Online, there are recommendations to even poke holes in a piece of cardboard for safe viewing.

There will be another one in April 2024.
It will be a partial eclipse from the DR, but a total one from North America.
Of course I'm flying back home just to see it in totality!

I always try to watch on the NASA channel. Having said that, all of the folks on that channel get ridiculously bubbly and giddy anytime they host these events.
