There is such an over abundance of dogs in DR, but not many cats. We never see any in our campo, or where my in-laws live in SD. Why? Were they all eaten? 😳
I’ve seen rats in the campo as big as small cats. They will eat anything.

Please can we have a separate thread to look into the mystery of the missing cats ?

Back on topic. It was difficult enough for the UN, US, and Canada to cobble together the candidates for the new interim government in Haiti. Now the Health Minister has to be replaced and I imagine not too many, if any, are lining up to fill that position. Chaos in the middle of chaos.

What’s interesting is Trump’s silence on the Haitian intervention and its implications for the US if it fails. Not a peep. He will be the linchpin that could bring it to a halt by stopping future funding. I expect him to extremely vocal if it fails and thousands of Haitian refugees start an exodus towards the US border. If he has any sense of that, he might keep the funding going. He will throw money at it instead of putting US military boots on the ground in Haiti.

Canada will have a new political leader in a few months. He/she may decide not to continue funding the intervention. The UN, for the most part, is financially strapped. Funding their Gaza operations has cost them dearly. The UNHCR is going, hat in hand, to other nations begging for more funding. Haiti is very low on their radar.

Luis has a vested interest in Trump’s approach to the Haitian intervention. If it fails, the DR border will start to bleed Haitians seeking refuge. Now would be a good time for Luis to bend the ear of the newly appointed US-DR ambassador to get his message to Trump about the risk to the DR and the US of not continuing funding.

And how are the Haitians to get to the USA? I suspect Trump will pull any funding regarding Haiti and leave it at that. No real need for further discussion in the USA.

Trump has a plan to stop all illegals. Any that do make it to the Mexican border are just part of the overall illegal immigraton problem.

The UN was, is and always will be useless. It should be disbanded. Perhaps Trump will pull out of the UN and that would be good.

I don't see Trump doing anything but defunding any Haitian efforts and ignoring the situation while in office. Luis will just have to step up the border guards, the wall work, and keep deporting under what I call Project Boomerang.

You're confusing Trump with liberal NGO's and others who expect the DR to solve the Haitian problem. He's not going to say or do squat. Most Haitians came to the US through the Darien Gap and Mexico. That problem is already being solved and will be eliminated. Plus, why would he possibly be saying anything about Haiti or the DR right now? He's got much bigger fish to fry.

Definitely something very bad happened there but in in regards to Details or Numbers; DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING THAT COMES FROM THE UN.
This is by far the most criminal organization on earth !!! They are never interested in Solving any Conflict, just the opposite.

If the builders got fat on cheap illegal labor and that is gone, oh well. They can then talk about the "good old days".

I am happy to see prices go up and Dominicans find jobs. Things change.

Then maybe fewer people will move here and overtax the already fragile infrastructure. I would be glad to see the "construction be over".
That won't bother me in the least if they deported each an every illegal and could actually keep them from returning again and again.

Are you kidding ? That's one thing that won't change. It will be a frosty day in H*** when Dominicans take over all those construction jobs.
Well, I can hope that happens if they deport all the illegals, can't I? I am as serious as a heart attack on this.

What would also work is if the Haitians had work visas, but that seems to be an insurmountable task.

Such a simple common sense answer. Deport, docs, visas, work.

There are lots in my neighborhood, they run from house to house on the roofs and top of the walls. Lots of Haitians as well. Immigration last raided about a month ago, but many of the Haitians had their proper documents and permissions. Truck only had a few that they caught.

Do you really think that torres and hotels go up all across the country with Haitians that don't have work visas? You're mistaken. Large builders, not a hotel or tower do not get the permits and have their name on it contracting with a Haitian.
Your figure out the rest or speak to someone that knows how it's done..

Not insurmountable as you have said.
