Pay windshield cleaners or else…

A Dominicanos captured this video on the intersection of 27 de Febrero and Jiménez Moya in Santo Domingo. Apparently, the windshield cleaner cleaner the windshield without permission and then demanded the driver to pay him for that. The driver refused since no one told him to cleaner the windshield, so the driver got a thread to do harm to him because “Haitians are warriors, he (the driver) will become a slave, he is from the street and then demanded the driver doesn’t know what he (the windshield cleaner) is capable of.”

Hmm, what are the chances the windshield cleaner would forget the face of the driver if in a later date both are near to each other (the driver outside his car)?

Amazing customer service!

I give them a finger wag before they even get close, and if they insist, turn on the wipers like Mr. AE.

If he let the kid wash the windshield then said he wasn't going to pay because he didn't say yes, he's asking for problems.

I wonder who wrote that description. Jiménez Moya doesn’t cross 27 de Febrero, it changes name to Churchill at Sarasota.

Mr AE turns on his wipers as soon as the guys approach
that's what I do as they get close but some of them are pretty good at throwing their dirty sponge from a good distance and getting the grimy soap scuds all over the windshield.

If we see one approaching, my wife gives the finger wag, worst case scenario I turn on the wipers, but usually if we spot one in a traffic light, I leave a bit of space between our vehicle and the one in front of us, and just when they are almost next to us, we casually drive forward to close the gap, they hardly ever start following us.

And yes, I would not even try letting them do the job and then not paying, that would be risky. Or open my window as the driver did...

It does reach 27 de Febrero as that is where it ends (or begins). They never had the correct street signs at 27 (though they do at the intersection with Bentacourt.) Once upon a time the entire avenue from Kennedy to La Feria was Churchill. Perhaps the streets signs at 27 are from then.

They simply need to replace two signs with one with an arrow next to Churchill on top and another arrow in the opposite direction next to Jiménez Moya on the bottom.

I never really had issues with this. Quick finger wag, shake of the head no, turn the wipers on, always seems to work. Sometimes I would just give them something just to keep moving.

I think there were at least 3 times when Government prohibited their activities, but as usual, a couple of days after they are back and for some reasons, they are so important for police and the Government that instead of just eliminating them by putting a bullet in their heads and dumping their bodies at the garbage dump, they let them continue to bother all the city drivers every day. The last time they were prohibited after a driver shot one in the head on intersection of Sarasota con Churchill.

Usually, it's just a finger wag and they go to the next car. I can remember only one time during 20 years of daily driving in Santo Domingo, when that imbecile got really aggressive that I had to point my gun right to his face so he disappeared very quick.

Why didnt you help the Government along and put a bullet in the guys head ...rather than just threatening him ?

One kid did that to me in Puerto Plata. He threw his sponge from about 10 feet just as the light turned green and I drove off with his sponge and him chasing me. I drove just slow enough to let him think he would catch me and recover his sponge.

I do pay them if they wind up cleaning my windshield but I always seem to miss their hand and the coin falls on the pavement.

They are leeches and their work is not really a job. Would you pay a guy who came to your house at random and started painting your front door?

I don't drive so don't have this problem but, I remember walking along Churchill. A windshield washer guy threw his sponge from a distance at a car windshield. Only problem was the old car didn't have a windshield. The sponge hit the driver. The driver was screaming. I don't know what the washer guy did. Another guy walking and I just stood there looking in shock then we both started laughing. The light changed and the wet swearing driver continued on his way.

I've never had a problem in 30 years of driving in the D.R. When I was younger, in NYC, I delivered bread from 8 pm till 8 am. On Delancy near the Bowery as I waited for a light, a bum grabbed the driver's side mirror of my panel truck and said "I'm not letting go until you give me something".On my way out the passenger side door I grabbed an axe handle. He let go after the first whack. I love happy endings!
