==> The official statistic for DR GDP per capita comes from the DR Central Bank. It is RD$97,968 (2005 data). That is not debatable. The IMF uses this number.

==> The reason I post here thread is to promulgate correct information about the DR.

==> No-one in their right mind would ever put hard earned capital at risk by reading cia.gov. I can't believe I actually have to say that!

==> Nals, PPP by definition, cannot be used to to estimate the per capita GDP in local currency. I can't believe I had to say that!

What's that Jethro Tull song?......"Thick as a brick"

RD$97,968 in 1970 is equivalent to RD$292,083, in 2006.

how I estimate....off the top

Eddyx, your conclusion/analysis is flawed. Go back to the link I posted and convince yourself.

planner, using GDP per capita is relevant. Let's use the US as an example, using very rough numbers (from my memory):

1) GDP = US$13Trillion
2) Population = 330Million
3) GDP/person = US$39,000
4) Percentage GDP as salary/income = 65% (accepted figure)
5) Salary per person = US$25,000
6) Percentage of the population with a job = 45% (educated guess)
7) Average Salary of a working person in the USA = $55,000. This is a pretty good estimate.

You can perform the same analysis for the DR. Note that some of the assumptions are not very reliable, but at least this is an educated guess.

1) GDP = DR$884Billion
2) Population = 9.03 Million
3) GDP/Person = DR$97,000
4) Percentage GDP as salary/income = 50% (this is just a guess, maybe less)
5) Salary per person = DR$48,500
6) Percentage of population with a job (in the formal economy): 30% (my guess)
7) Average salary of a working person in the DR$ formal economy: DR$161,000.
