Haven’t been in El Batey to eat in eight years. Except for cappuccino at Cubana. Special occasion tomorrow so figured I would shake the dust off my wallet and finally go to a restaurant. Been told the food has improved here in the past 6 months. At least that is what a few expats have told me. Anybody been here lately. My wife is a chef so she can be witchie about her food. But this is where she wants to go because a friend works there and said the cook was fantastic. Any good/bad reviews from the past 6 months. Appreciate any replies. Thank you.

Haven't eaten there in a couple years but my guess it couldn't have gotten worse - not sure that's an endorsement.
Sosua is not an Oasis of food choices

It was 20 years ago. There was an Italian place on the same side of the street on the same side as The Romanoff but further up the street towards Pedro Clisante. Was at the opening when Eddy had the Russian guy cooking Thai food, he was good. And Big Lou always found great places to eat. Now I’ve been in Maranatha for 8 years and just go to the Playero and would send a concho to Bologna for pizza ordered well done. Go to the dentist on Martinez and pharmacy next to little Playero and ElRancho for snitzel. Wanted to eat by the ocean and wife heard there was a new cook at Piergiorgio so gonna give it a try. Guess I will have to get back and give a review.

I ate there in April a couple of times in April and the food was ok, but it was more about the view for me than the food.

Quick review. Food was excellent. Had the shrimp in cream sauce. Was expecting a small amount of linguine with it but not there. Menu could definitely use some tweaking for such a beautiful location. Definitely could use a few more appitizers on menu. Would have bought one if better selection. Also thought there would be a few more entree choices. Didn’t notice if they had a dessert menu. 2 shrimp in cream sauce, 2 Presidentes and two club sodas with fresh squeezed lime 52 bucks. With the excellent view and mellow location would have been more than double in most part of the US of A.
The cook Santos came out when asked ( only had other table of 4 ) there. Speaks a little English and said would customize a meal if asked.
Service was great but as stated on 6 diners in restaurant. Waitress took time to take a few photos of us by the ocean railing. 100 peso propia that she appreciate. Not sure how the service would be if slammed on a nice night but for lunch the little lady loved the quit atmosphere and Vista.
I have seen some bad reviews about the rooms there. But, the view was great if you had an ocean front room. Want to go back today for a tour. will get back. My standards are that of someone who lives half the year in Maranatha so it doesn’t take much to impress me around here for the past 20 years. Hope this helpful. Thanks for reading. And again will try to get back with my thoughts about the hotel when or if I get back there soon. Later Jumbo

Did you notice if they are serving breakfast? I was there for breakfast over one year ago and the coffee was terrible and the food mediocre. I'd like to try it again even though you can't beat the Waterfront for breakfast. Unlimited coffee!!!!

Stayed there about 6 months ago for 1 month at $900 cash. Rooms are small but the AC worked well and staff were excellent.

Small balcony with a beautiful view which matters more to me than most people. Would stay there again without hesitation.

I stayed there in October when my apt was being painted. The rooms are fine---a bit dated, but comfortable and fine. The food, however (or at least the complimentary breakfast) is inedible. They should be fined for even trying to present it as food. In the chafing dishes: watery scrambled eggs, mangu that had seen better days, sausages (which were actually hot dogs), and a loaf of bread in the wrapper next to a toaster that wasn't plugged in, and lukewarm coffee and you've got the picture. Just for good measure, add in the surliest wait staff on the North Coast for the complete experience.

Been told that breakfast is mediocre at best. Santo says he works tuesday thru Sunday from noon till closing most weeks. He was the reason the little lady wanted to go. I guess a friend of a friend. She is a private cook for some Dominicans in Montello and two families in Cabarette. She is a good cook and really liked the atmosphere and shrimp. For me when Big Lou was here we always went to the Waterfront for breakfast.
