The proposal to reduce the typical Dominican work week from 44 to 36 hours will start with several hundred employees in companies serving as the study group. They are volunteers. Studies will be conducted on the efficiency of this plan, especially regarding production.

The pilot project I is divided into two phases that will cover a total of six months. The first phase will focus on employees of five institutions or companies: Claro, IMCA (Catepillar), EGE Haina (energy), National Health Insurance Plan (Senasa) and the social services network called the Single Beneficiary System (Siuben) that provides economic support for the needy.

The 400 employees will receive 100% of their salaries and be expected to produce 100% of their normal productivity in just 80% of the time.

The following three months will be used by the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM)...

I still don't understand how can a telco company participate to this, or just the upper management then? I wrote in the previous thread that this has been already done in EU with success, but as far as I know, only manufacturing etc. companies do this. Nothing client-facing... Maybe I'm missing something on how Claro works?

EDIT: it appears to be only 400 people so that would explain it...

Let's face it Dominican salaries are very low but it reality many don't deserve that. A few deserve more but they are pink unicorns, like Jolie at Club Residential.

When God decided on who would be lazy he bestowed those genes to Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, the Greeks and Lebanese and hundreds of thousands of US welfare queens and their baby daddies.

I think the four-day work week was designed by unions. That way their members can get the 5th day in overtime pay which is paid at time and a half. Unions always advocate for less work and more money. Any product produced by unions is sub-par.

I guess this is an example of you going easy on the folks. Very safe and conservative response

I am sorry but I find it amazing some of you have such low opinions of Dominicans given the fact you chose to live here in the DR. SMH.
I think you're conflating some things here. Separate and aside from the "Dominican work productivity realities" one can clearly elect the DR for living due to its beautiful beaches, other natural beauty, including chicas, and the year-round summer-like climate.

Another caveat: there are businesses in DR that run a tight ship and implement strict US and/or European work ethics and organizational mission statements. They deliver on time and at cost for the most part. Now for the good part: there isn't a snowball's chance in hades that even these pilot organizations can even dream of completing 100% of the workload in 20% less time. This is a myth. In the US, business leaders work 24/7. That's the game. There is no other way. Especially in a country where, even with an additional workday, they cannot meet the workload. Let alone cutting the work week by one day! You have to be kidding me truth be told a culture where a company cant get employees to start even 5 min before work hours, cut a lunch hour 2 minutes short, or God forbid stay open on one of these excessive holidays!

Good point. Especially since so many are married to Dominicans and/or have Dominican children. Painting with a very broad brush. I’m guessing “their” Dominicans are different. (Remember the DDDs from Mars/Venus forum?

Loving someone doesn't mean they aren't also part of an unproductive society
