Where is the best place to get a good pizza in Santo Domingo? I would like to know of a restaurant where you can order a whole pie with whatever. I searched the net and found the following two places.

Caf? Roma
Gustavo Mejia Ricart esq. Abraham Lincoln, Torre Piantini, Local 18-A, Piantini

Rosso Brick Oven Pizza
Av. Winston Churchil, Plaza Orleans, Local 109-110

I am able to locate the areas on my map but I am confused as to what Local 18-A and Local 109-110 means. If you can explain that, the first slice is on me.

I have not eaten in the places you mentioned so I cannot comment on them, however, pizarelli has pretty good pizza and is more of a take out/delivery type place but they do have tables and you can eat there. It just might not be the restaurant type atmosphere you are looking for.

They do have pretty good pizza. I am from Queens NY and I KNOW good pizza. I thought good pizza was something I was leaving behind when I came here and I was surprised pizarelli is as good as it is. Not like Rosas pizza on 69th and grand ave. in Maspeth Queens but pretty good...

edited to add: Pizarrelli is a chain and there are several of them in SD. The one I have eaten in is in Gazcue, Maximo Gomez esq. Bolivar.

I have never eaten at the 2 places you listed.
I think Rosso Brick Oven Pizza is closed.

Local is the number of the store in the mall or plaza.

Is that anything close to Ray's Pizza on 14th and Avenue of Americas in Manhattan?

Pizarelli, I will give it a try. Nothing like a hot pie right out of the oven. It sure beats a re-heated slice.

Local means locale or location within the plaza.

I agree with Larry. Pizzarelli is my favorite. I've eaten at their locations on El Conde, the Malec?n and Maximo Gomez. You can take out or sit down at all three. I frequently pop into Pizzarelli on the Malec?n for their 100 peso super slice and small beer special.

I don't know the two you mentioned so I won't comment on them.

I have eaten at Rays. Rays is really good. There are so many great pizza joints in NY. I mentioned Rosas because it was my favorite and close to where I lived for years.

Pizarelli is not as good as those places BUT for a 3rd world country, it is good.

Here is the # for the one on Maximo Gomez...809 686 7334. Call them and they will give you the other locations.

Just what I thought LOL. I guess you have to take the good with the bad. Too many great things about the DR to worry about pizza ;)

Make sure whatever pizza you get, they are using tomato sauce. I got pizza once and used some other type of ppink-ish sauce. :disappoin :disappoin

Pizzerilla on avenue Venuzela

I have eaten twice at Pizzerilla on Avenue Venuzela. It is two or three blocks from the Movie Theater and Burger king. It was good for a third world country but does not compare to NY. The place has an outdoor jungle gym which the kids love.

The best pizza I have found is still at the Vesuvio's pizza place (Trattoria??)on the other side of the parking lot from the Malecon restaurant of the same name, located in Santo Domingo. They have a brick oven that is wood-fired, and the pizza is great.

One question for all - What is it with dominicans and friggin corn on pizza? I hate the stuff, and cannot seem to get a pizza made ANYWHERE without corn on it.

There's a decent place on Cacicazgos, on Enriquillo between Privada and Caonabo, on the north side. Closest I've had to Napolitan pizza here (but not anywhere near though).

Several years ago I was at a work meeting in La Vega, and the hosts ordered pizza for lunch. I asked for a pizza de vegetales, and boy did they take it literally. This one even had lettuce!

If you are in the colonial zone you have both pizzareli and Palo Pizza, about equal in quality. But the best place is at the eastern end of the conde between las damas and la catolica, just across from the French embassy. It is an Italian chain of restaurants, the name of which escapes me, but the pizza is really good.

ok...so its in BC and not SD...but the past couple of years there has been some really decent brick oven pizza on the beach side of calle duarte. No..not NYC pizza...but not bad i must say...and a quick and affordable way to feed yourself on the quick.

also..the german place at plaza bonita serves a darn good pie to feed a few people. They make really good home made bread...so they have a good crust and the sauce is good.

Not a bad way to feed two or three people for about 200 pesos.

again..thats in boca chica tho

Hahaha! I know. Isn't is disgusting? I I get a veggie pie or some kind of a combo pie that might come with corn I make sure I tell them..."no corn"! Sometimes, they STILL put it on. YUCK!.
