Sadly again somebody drowned at El Valle. It should be known to all that El Valle is a beautiful beach to visit but not to swim.Over the years a lot of people have drowned there, however there are still no warning signs.

To heck with a sign. The cruise ship sells excursions out to El Valle and yet they don't have a life guard posted. The man that drowned was there from the cruise ship and he was warned a few times not to swim out so far and he didn't listen. If there had been a life guard he would still be alive.

My wife was there when it happened and the beach was full of trucks and buses of people from the cruise ship.

What about personal responsibility

To heck with a sign. The cruise ship sells excursions out to El Valle and yet they don't have a life guard posted. The man that drowned was there from the cruise ship and he was warned a few times not to swim out so far and he didn't listen. If there had been a life guard he would still be alive.

If The gentleman in question would have LISTENED to the warnings he also would still be alive..... it is called personal responsibility for ones actions!

Yes it is the undertows, and it was full moon which makes the currents even stronger.
Do be honest am not sure what happened there.I spoke to various people who where there that day and all tell me soemthing different,
AND as far as I am concerned that is not the point, lots of people have drowned there.

There is a riptide at El Valle. If you swim out far enough it will pull you out. Add the huge waves on that day and you have got to be careful.

My husband and I were there swimming about two years ago and one of our friends and my husband found themselves in a little trouble because they had been pulled by the riptide to where they couldn't touch bottom anymore.
Fortunately, the current wasn't strong enough and they were able to swim back to where they could touch the bottom.

No one around warned us of the danger and NO SIGNS anywhere in sight.
When I asked the locals why that was, they told me that it's because if they post the signs no one will go there and they will lose their food business.

It is such a beautiful beach. What a shame.

I wouldn't say "WHAT A SHAME".

The beach is awesome and people should go there to check it out. Explore the rock formations with the rivers of fresh water that are gushing out from underneath of the rocks. The small caves. The big cave on the east side with the river coming out of it. The river on the far west side of the beach.

Even if you can't go swimming the day that you are here it is still worth every effort to see it.

If you really want to go swimming then hit the Cascada (waterfall) Lulu on your way back to town. It's one of my favorite places to go swimming anyway. You can even climb up the falls and jump into the pool below.

Leave Samana towards Las Galeras. At the top of the hill is a malfunction junction with a giant intersection. Continue west towards Las Galeras. About 100 meters uphill from this intersection is a dirt road on the left that also continues uphill. Take that road until you arrive at the ocean. You will have a river crossing so I wouldn't take a car there. You'll know your on the right road when you see all the aqueduct installations in the first 2 miles or so. It will take about a half hour from the main road to get to the beach. It's also under construction for the aqueduct at this time.

One of the best beaches in Samana! And... wherever you are swimming on whatever beach, always take care.
