To say that in the DR they at least have the freedom to vote the rascals out is just, respectfully speaking, semantics. It is simply an illusion because the power structure remains in the hands of politicians who all have the same agenda.

And the US and Canada and Spain and the UK and... where voting just passes one corrupt government over to another every four years, it winds up having the same overall affect, with a few minor exceptions.

I think the whole point to this thread was that the DR should be doing more for the country and it's people considering the money coming into the country and the (never to be paid back) loans they get from other countries.
Again, I come back to this: the per capita GDP in the DR is around US$4000, of which the gubmint budget takes 20% of that.

Where is the money going to come from?

Why would such an island paradise need aid from anyone? Clean streets, happy citizens....I am surprised we aren't all applying for Cuban residency right now!
