Some years ago I received a package at the post office in Sosua containing a number of checkbooks from a US bank. Everything seemed to be in order. A little while later I was short $10,000.- in my account. Turns out that someone had ripped out a check from the middle of one booklet and cashed a check for the above amount. I was insured and received my money back.
In my early, na?ve days in the Dr. several banks sent me credit cards from abroad. The envelopes always arrived but the cards inside were always gone.
Moral of the story. Have nothing sent by mail that you cannot afford to loose. Just like it is a religious duty in some religions tokill people not of their own faith it is sacred law here that the only purpose of gringos (foreigners) is to be taken advantage of as often as possible.
