Time for stoping to give free electricity to the poor to get their votes would be good enough and fix all the issues at once.
That will only happen if the government gets out of the power distribution business that it should never have been in to begin with.
That is what caused the on going disaster.... If the EDE's remain, then the corruption you mention continues.

Our campo area has had 24/7 electricity for several years now, and we even removed our inverter when it was time to buy new batteries. Whole different story these days, and Mr AE has told his brother to have the inverter reinstalled and new batteries purchased before we get there in December.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
That's interesting, I wonder what is the current situation where we're based in POP. Nobody used inverters there 3 years back, but not sure now. We had a 4-battery inverter years ago, but did exactly as you guys, removed and sold as there was no need... Once we now get to visit POP (we're now about 4 months late), we have to plan carefully as going from a cold climate to POP without luz and A/C would not be the best idea...

It depends in POP on where you are exactly. There is region in POP with an independent power company that is more reliable than EDENORTE. Do you have the option to use that company instaed of Edenorte? I heard about that option on another DR related forum.

Yes, I'm aware of the area, as it's a bit like famous there (if things have not changed, they source the luz from a private planta at the entrance of Playa Dorada), but unfortunately, nothing of ours has ever been even close by, so we're stuck with Edenorte... We were about to rent a home once there, but there was something odd... Oddly I cannot even right now recall what is the area called...

Las Terrenas had a private power company and it worked extremely well. Power outages were very rare. Can't remember all the details but the government took it over and power outages are the norm now.

Well, there you have a perfect example of my point about what happens when the government is in charge of electricity.
That needs to change and the government taken out.

And Edenorte is better over time as well, but still they remain with a great amount of incompetence, corruption, unresponsiveness and just general apathy that comes from a government entity running something that should not be in the government's hands. You can see from the article when this mistake was made.

Now it is time to "Put the Candle Back" Which is a reference to a famous scene in Young Frankenstein.
Make the power companies private again and they will quikcly root out the thieves.

I have to grudgingly admit that EDEste has improved substantially over the last 2 years. Sure, we still have sporadic outages, especially after maintenance. But overall and especially this year, they have dramatically gotten better. Obviously I'm clueless on the other 2 EDEs
then there must be two different EDEstes

Correct, a perfect example is Punta Cana/ Bavaro. CEPM a private company controls all the electric there. So the whole region gets 24-7, NO blackouts and literally the same service as any major Country...........
