All,

I am in the UK and use a 3pin plug - what type of adaptor do I need for the DR? 2 pin European style?

The DR uses the same system as in North America.
That is to say, 110/120 volt, 60 cycle, so you need more than just a pin adapter, you would also need a transformer that changes 110/120 to 220/240 volt.
The exeption would be if the unit you have has a conversion switch incorporated, that selects the entry voltage, and also some things like battery chargers, rechargeable electric shavers and laptop computers, will still work with 110/120, but with a prong adaptor.

You're not being dozy.
The first pic, posted above, was a wall socket that accepts various types of plugs.
They would be uncommon, here in the DR.
The following two pics show the types of plugs used here.
They all show 3 pins, but almost everything we use here, only has 2 pins, the 2 flat opposing pins.
The third lone round one if for grounding purposes, and grounds virtually do not exist in the DR.
