The Ministry of Tourism is funding improvements to the 4.3 km boardwalk in Santo Domingo East for RD$550 million. The Malecón de Santo Domingo Este has an extension of 5.2 km.
The Santo Domingo East boardwalk starts at the military base and continues until it merges with the Las Americas Expressway. Tourism Minister David Collado said that 400 parking spaces would be added to the Avenida España boardwalk (Malecón). A recreational park will be built with activities for the youths in the community. The works should be completed in 18 months-time.
The public works also include improvements to the water supply in eastern Santo Domingo province.
