President Luis Abinader has scheduled meetings with government officers, business, community and civil society representatives to look into specific issues in the northeastern province.

On his agenda is the inauguration of a sewage treatment plant and visit to a Samana municipal hospital. At 12 noon, he will visit the garbage landfill. Then he will meet with Las Terrenas business people.

For 3pm, he has scheduled a meeting with the province’s political leaders in Las Terrenas.

During his first month in government, President Abinader has held similar meetings with the community in Santiago, Montecristi and Hato Mayor.

I have always felt the weekly meetings with constituents in different communities and trying to resolve their issues was an excellent idea by Danilo, even though some of his promises were never implemented.
It looks like President Abinader thinks it was a good idea as well and is continuing in Danilo's footsteps.

With most of government concentrated in the capital city, the regular traveling provides an outlook on the provinces.

Abinader has taken the idea of routine meetings of the President with people in the provinces more than a step ahead. The approaches are very different. The only thing that is the same is the regular traveling to visit the provinces.

Abinader publicly announces these so people know he will be there and they can participate or speak to those that will participate. Medina called his visits "surprise" visits, meaning people supposedly didn't know he would be there.

Abinader's visits are much broader. The meetings are open to business, government, community. It is an opportunity to get across to the President.

Take note they are not held on Sundays, can be more than a day, and can be several days.
