Right. But, more people still care about Hollywood than Planet Hollywood. This isn't 2005. Planet Hollywood is hardly considered at the cutting edge.
Gotta wonder if the issue of dependable electricity and water supply will be discussed? . That’s a lot of development requiring water and electricity already in short supply.The first public hearing regarding the Punta Bergantín touristic project will take place on November 22, 2023 and the second public hearing on November 27, 2023. Both will be at the Gran Ventana Hotel in Playa Dorada and will start at 11AM.
It appears the first resort to be built in Playa Bergantín will be the Ambar Hotel (I think the name could still change) and the pubilc hearings will be on the same dates and place of the previous ones. The only difference is the time at 12PM.
Both hearings concern with the environmental studies of each project.
I’ve been over most of that area on foot,
on horseback, and in ATV’s. A combination of polluted and unpolluted areas. The river dumps a lot of persistent plastic waste along the beach there on a daily basis. The beach is decent but tourist overflow will spill over to the Playa Dorada beach, already overcrowded at peak times.
Add in the increased traffic to and from Gregorio Luperon airport along an already busy stretch of highway. If I had a residence or rental in the Sousa to Puerto Plata corridor, I’d be concerned about water, electricity, and increased traffic.
Fitting a quart of shite into a pint bottle has its problems.
Indeed. I hope nothing else is ever built on the north coast. I am sure this project does not stand a chance:

Puerto Plata.- After the Dominican Government presented Puerto Plata as a revitalized tourist destination, specifically through the Punta Bergantín project at this year’s International Tourism Fair in Madrid (Fitur), progress has been slow. The initiative, which includes the construction of 700 hotel rooms in its first phase, is currently awaiting the issuance of environmental permits.
Andrés Marranzini, a prominent figure in the Dominican tourism industry, revealed that the project is preparing for its first public hearing scheduled for November 21. During this event, the master plan will be presented to the local community, neighbors, and other stakeholders. This public hearing is an essential step to obtain the necessary permits from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, which are required to initiate construction.
Marranzini, who will lead the trust responsible for the Punta Bergantín project, emphasized the importance of these permits. They guide the utilization of different areas within the project and outline the commercial program for each lot. This process also facilitates the raising of funds through the trust, which is currently in the process of formalization. Once these regulatory hurdles are cleared, the project will be presented to potential investors in the first quarter of the coming year.
Despite the project already having established the subdivisions for hotel construction, it is still seeking investors and operators. According to Marranzini, there has been significant interest from potential investors and operators.
Traditionally, Puerto Plata’s tourism market has been linked to Canada and Europe, but there’s a growing interest in attracting investors from the east coast of the United States. The project is looking to diversify its sources of clientele and tourists.
Punta Bergantín is an ambitious endeavor with plans for 6,760 hotel rooms and 13,705 residential rooms, providing a total capacity of 20,465 keys for hotel and residential tourism. The project’s first phase will encompass a vast area of 2.76 million square meters and includes amenities like a sustainable golf course, an academic campus focused on innovation, a film studio associated with the One Race Films Company led by American actor Vin Diesel, and the first hotel in the Planet Hollywood chain. The successful realization of this project could potentially bring in thousands of tourists to Puerto Plata, significantly boosting the local economy.
In today’s La Información it’s revealed the north coast will get a new water park in Punta Bergantín.

In recent interviews regarding people related to the Punta Bergantín project they never said it changed or even that a cruise port was added. It was even affirmed that the new golf course will be built (I think this would be the second championship type built in Puerto Plata, funny that the government -Playa Dorada via the Central Bank and this one via the Banreservas which is technically not the DR government but is owned by the government- seem to be the only one to built championship type golf courses not just in Puerto Plata but the entire north coast (the Central Bank also created the one in Playa Grande.)
This was yesterday (at least the video was uploaded yesterday, the interview could had been from a few days before) and at 12:13 he mentions the different things the project will have and a cruise port isn’t one of them.
Here at 17:20 again several things mentioned but cruise port isn’t one them.

However, back then there was no Punta Bergantín project, in fact those lands still belong to the Central Bank instead of Banreservas who I think is now the owner. Plus, Taino Bay was finally built by the port in Puerto Plata city.

Not long after Amber Cove opened, the first reports of an additional 2 new ports first appeared. The old port and Punta Bergantin were mentioned at that time. Punta Bergantin has the least natural protection of the 3 locations.
