Passengers traveling through one of the busiest airports in the Caribbean have the opportunity to enjoy runway views... from a pool. The infinity pool is located in the VIP lounge and features unparalleled vistas. The best part is you don't even have to be flying in first class to enjoy it.

This sounds like one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard of. You just spent a week or two in the pool at an AI or a luxury villa and now you're going to want to arrive at the airport extra early so you can take a dip in the pool there(?).

Agree, except a lot of Dominicans will have their bathing suits on and a lot of free booze also..........

This is rich. While the pool looks refreshing, personally, as someone who has flown my whole life, I can't understand the benefits of a public swimming pool with a view of the tarmac and gates. Is that "unparalleled vistas"? An unparalleled vista would be at the top of the Swiss Alps. Or taking the gondola up there and skiing down. Sitting in a pool tarmac-side while kids scream and pee in the same, is far from any amenity I am seeking at the airport

It's a pretty awful lounge to be honest, I have been there many times. There is a limit of two alcoholic drinks per person, and they serve them so no chance of getting drunk. There is only snacky food, very similar to the VIP lounge in SDQ, just a few cakes and some salad stuff, I think there is maybe one hot option but it's basic to say the least. It's often hard to find anywhere to sit except for outside, and there is a dense fog of aircraft fumes if you decide to sit outside. A few people swim, but it's very exposed and very smelly.

As Maria posted, I have also been there a few times and have to agree about the lounge. It can get crowded, and sitting outside can be hot. I have only seen people in the pool once. It may be considered a "unique" idea but after showering at the hotel, getting to the airport, then going into a pool at the airport just would not appeal to me. IMO those that do, do it for the novelty of it, to be able to say, "I swam at the airport". There is not a view to speak of outside unless you enjoy looking at aircraft.

The article is from a few months ago, but the pool at the PCIA has existed for much longer than that.

What if you miss your flight and the next flight they are able to put you in will not be for the next say 3 hours? It isn't as if any passenger can simply leave the airport and return later once they pass migration and security.

It's like finding restaurants in airports (the one in Panama is like a shopping mall, lol.) Some people will not sped much time at the airport while others might spend much longer.

What if you packed your bathing suit in your checked bag? Is skinny dipping allowed?

I love the smell of Jet A and the deafening sound of air carts and APU's!

I bet there are quite a few who fork over the ducketts to let their screaming kids pee in the pool. Who on Earth needs a dip in the pee pool that bad before a flight that they would pay 50 dollars. I bet they don't look like the lady from the ad where they mention unparalleled vistas

All of the above ! 👆

There was a thread on this topic, a few years back ,and the consensus was pretty much what's been said above. CNN Travel did a piece on the "World's best airport swimming pools," but PUJ didn't make the list....rightly so. PUJ's pool looks like a cheap cabana jacuzzi gimmick compared to , say , DOH's Airport Vitality Wellbeing & Fitness Center.

Nowadays, the PUJ airport pool serves Gen Z well – Zoomers snapping away for Instagram and TikTok. 📸🤳

That said, the PUJ lounge still beats SJU VIP lounge.... long story...

....a full VIP lounge is just a lounge! 🤨

I wonder if they have the pee-activated chemical in the water?

The last time I was there, there was a guy who was clearly famous who came and sat close to where I was sitting. One of the lounge staff came and asked if he could have a selfie with him, the guy agreed, then the manager came over and apologised and when I went to the bathroom the manager was shouting his head off at the member of staff (who was saying "no es mi culpa", as if he couldn't be to blame for something he had personally done).
I had absolutely no idea who the guy was, his face was covered in tattoos, but they did send security to escort him to the aircraft so clearly he was someone important.

If just one side had tattoos, it might have been Tyson. If his face was covered with tattoos, it was probably that reggaeton artist - can't remember his name(?).

Post Malone?
It would be a shame if you missed a chance to talk with him. He is awesome.
