I don t know what is the rule... I talk just about experience the people I know and how they do it. so you are propably true on what you saying but I know for a fact that air transat sale 1 way from POP to person who just have their visa so firts time in canada.

I think the better solution to the OP is to call them and see what air transat will tell to her.

It is so stupid, what differences does it make if an immigrant come to Canada on Air Transat or Air Canada?

Seems like stupid canadian burocracy

This is such a conflicting topic. I've heard so many times from so many different people that they can only travel on Air Canada. But then i've spoken to people who have had their husbands travel on Transat and Skyservice as recent as last month. I wonder where we could get this cleared up?? Would the embassy have that info?

Obviously! I am not referring to being allowed entry in Canada...it is a legal issue...I have friends employed by the charters in TO...they may not transport passengers to Canada prior to them become landed and receiving their status!

Then there is your answer! If he can't take a charter - then your only option IS Air Canada.

Carriers have restrictions for travel not because of first time travel, immigrants or dominicans. Some traffice agreements between countries where regular carriers have scheduled flights requiere that charters can be sold only from point of origin.

call air transat is the only way you can know but like I said I know people who have flying with air transat from POP who have just received his visa . the only thing they have to show all paper at a rep here to be sure all was fine to get to canada.

Thanks RequenAir. I checked cheaptickets.com but you can't search starting from Dominican on their website. And travelocity is only bringing up flights through the states. so no luck there. but thanks for the suggestion.

I just bought a return ticket leaving montreal on the 14 to POP, returning on the 21. I wont be using the return portion. If it were transferable Id give it to you for a steal, although I'm not sure if this can be done.

Summer is not a cheap time to travel so cheap tickets might be hard to find. Did you say you worked for skyservice in another thread? Why don't you call a travel agent and ask since you can't buy directly from Skyservice or Transat nor from their website.

You have three options that's it, two charters or air Canada.

Don't know how cheap it will be but WestJet announced today that beginning in December they will start scheduled service to POP (2X weekly) and PUJ (2X weekly). Watch for WestJet Vacations to start package vacations too, POP for sure - PUJ, maybe.

My dear, you have to purchase his ticket in the dominican. In santo domingo there is an Air Canada agent. I'm sure you can find the location on the internet or by calling them. Because the flight starts in DR, you have to purchase the ticket there. Then he just takes a bus from SD to Puerto Plata. The ticket may cost around $800 CAD or so.

Thanks 2 all 4 the info. Yes i do realize that the ticket has to be purchased in Domincan Republic. But i just wanted to get an idea for him how much he is going to be paying for a ticket. Looks like Air Transat will be the best deal at $450 US.
Thanks all!

Thanks 2 everyone for their responses. We were able to find cheap flights through Air Transat and also Conquest Vacations (on Air Canada and Skyservice). All are less then $500us and they are able to buy tickets a few days in advance at the airport.
So, thanks all for your input.
